Landon 14 Bullis 41

In all but one game this year, the Bears scored on its first drive. Last night the visitors went three-and-out, signaling that it was going to be a tough night. A combination of Devonte Williams (259 yards), who has nine offers from Div. I colleges, and an uncharacteristically porous defense led to the Bears’ loss.

Rather than the normal play-by-play review, this account will recite some highlights:

The Landon student section was as large as and more vocal than the Bullis homecoming crowd. Even late in the game, the Bear fan continued to support their team. Their rendition of “Landon Forever” as the clock wound down would have made Mr. Cavuoti proud.

Keith Simms timed a Dwayne Haskins Jr.pass perfectly on the way to a 56 yard pick six.

The 3rd quarter six play, well-executed drive for a touchdown. The Bears covered 71 yards all on the ground with Colton Rupp, Josh Hunter, Rob Adkins and Julius Kindfuller grabbing chunks of artificial turf.

The Bears missed (all but one fell during the game) their starting left guard (Peter Millsbaugh), their explosive RB (Johari Johnson), a RB/LB (Nate Buller), a starting DL (Joe Gagnon) and an OL/ DL (John Slowinski). Bullis roster includes 7 college recruits with a total of 39 offers. The good news is that their stud running back will not be back next year.

Landon never gave up. They played hard for all 48 minutes. As the two teams met at the 50 yard line, every Bear had his head held high and you could see the respect from the Bulldogs.

Yes, it was a disappointing, frustrating game against a very talented rival (the Montgomery Gazette quotes emphasized that the Bulldogs hold the Bears in high stead). But no, and more importantly, the visitors did not surrender. They played their last plays with the same intensity, enthusiasm and fight as they have all season long.
