Landon 11 Coronado 2–4/5 (H)

Coach Alex Cade, Landon 1994, brought his Coronado HS Islanders 2,274 miles to face Coach Bordley Bears. The Islanders are one of California’s top rated academic public schools,  and Alex coaches one  of the state’s best lacrosse teams. The Bears showed superior stick skills and understanding of the sophisticated strategies of the game.

Coach Bordley used the game to test some of his rested players and so the field was ably filled with names like

John  Blizzard,Tommy  Minkler and Bradley Grossman on attack,

Hank Brown,Paul Adkins, Peter Laco and JohnLynn (who also did well at the X) in the midfield and

Mark Strabo, Alex Povich, Robert Leachman, Milan Bhatt, Tim Hetterman andJon Matthews on defense and

Tyler Nichols in the goal

The offense was proficient scoring 11 goals/assists from John Blizzard (3,0), Patrick Kenna (1,3), Jimmy Sloan (2,0),Tommy Minkler (1,0), Pearce Minshall (1,0), Wes Lincoln (1,0),  Austin Dodson (1,0), Harrison Archer (1,0),Sam McDonough (0,1) and Will Korengold (0,1).

The defense was extremely effective shutting out the Islanders for 41 minutes– Will Joyce (1 save in the 1st Q), Alex Joyce (4 saves over quarters 3-3) and TylerNichols (1 save in the 4th Q) and many caused turnovers by the Ds, LSMs and SSMs.

BEAR SENIOR PROFILE

Kiel Weigmann #4 Longstick Senior

PHOTO  from John Weigmann

1.When did you start playing lacrosse? My first year of lacrosse was in seventh grade.  I played middie and switched to defense in eighth grade.

2.What is the brand and model of your lax stick; who strings it for you?I have an Maverik Wonderboy shaft with a Brine Cyber head.  My boy   Harrison strung it for me last year. I like what he can do.

3.Who is your favorite college lacrosse player and what team do you follow?I don’t know who my favoriteplayer is but I follow Delaware because that’s where I’m going.  Probably Curtis Dickson.

4.What is your senior project? My senior projectis Model Senate.  We get to sit in on debates in D.C., as well as conduct our own debates at Landon with other schools from this area.

5.Where will you be next year? I’ll be attending the University of Delaware, playing lacrosse.

6.As an Longstick do you dream about causing a turn over, sprinting down the field and firing a goal before Coach Bordley calls a time out?Always hoping to score and get assists. Coach usually assigns an Attack guy that I have to shut down, so when I run I’m mostly looking for a cutter, and get back. I think he calls TOs to set up important possessions, when we don’t have numbers on the break.

Unlike the SI jinx, the day that Coach Curtis’s post was include in BSN, his Catamounts had a big 11-8 victory over Binghamton.

In #5 Princeton 9- 7 victory over #16 Brown in Foxboro, MA, Mike Grossmanwas listed as having played and taken a  shot; no mention in the stats about another Tiger/Bear, but a plaudit from Princeton Goalie Tyler Fiorito said. “….. Our shortsticks played well. Peter Smyth and Tyler Moni were great, and so were Jimmy Davis and Connor Reilly. It was hot out there, and we needed everyone.”

Max Feeley worked hard (2GBs) in #6 Cornell’s upset loss to Brown 8-6 at Foxboro Stadium as part of the Ivy League Classic there.

#5 Dickinson’s Chris Dodson had 2 Gs and 2As in the Red Devils 9-8 victory over Haverford; he was instrumental in the comeback as the home team scored the final four goals to win.

#6 Tufts benefitted from another Bear, Nick Rhoads, in its 14-11 win over Wesleyan. Nicks stats: 1 goal, 8GBs and 10/17 faceoffs.

(a) the content is mine, does not reflect the opinion of Landon, Coach Bordley or anyone directly related to Landon,(b) that any errors that may exist are mine, inadvertent and correctable (please let me know and I will make ALL corrections);(c) that the author (me) is a huge disciple of the Landon team concept and that I will do everything that I can do to mention all the players; however, universal coverage is not really possible through this medium. If someone believes that a player or group (offense/defense; middies/attack/ LSMs/close defense/goalies/FOGO/coaches/manager/ etc.) should receive greater attention, I am open to such suggestions. I will not mention referees at any time and will limit references to the opposition.(d) that BSN is a volunteer publication and that as the editor, publisher, statistician and writer [me], I am all too fallible and I apologize in advance for any error.
