#1 MARYLAND (John Geppert, Matt Kopp) 18

VIRGINIA 9

The last time these teams met, Virginia got to watch a lot of Maryland goal celebrations.  More of the same this time around.

Virginia scored first, but the Terrapins closed out the first quarter with four goals in a row. In the second, the Cavaliers scored first, last and in the middle but still lost ground as Maryland tallied five scores in the period.  Maryland ran off four straight scores to start the third quarter and Virginia got their only back-to-back scores of the day but now Maryland was up 15-7. In the final period the ‘Hoos came as close to matching the Terrapins in a quarter, dropping the final frame 3-2.

John assisted on Maryland’s first goal of the second half and took two shots.  He also got to three ground balls.

#4YALE (Jake Cohen) 10

#5 PRINCETON 14

The Tigers pulled away from Yale with a seven-goal run in the middle of the first half to put them up by five.  Yale took a bite out of that lead, scoring twice before the end of the half then once to start the second half. The teams traded scores over the balance of the third period as the Tigers successfully defended their three-goal lead. Princeton extended that lead to four to start the final period, which held up as each team scored just once more.

Jake played in the game.

#3 PENN (Stephen Bou) 9

#6 RUTGERS 11

Rutgers started the scoring for the day with a pair of first quarter goals.  Penn didn’t get their first goal until the second quarter, then added a second a minute later to tie the game.  The teams matched each other goal for goal over the balance of the half. Rutgers took a two-goal lead early in the third quarter then the Quakers tried to rally and to pull away.  Penn finished the third quarter with a pair of goals to close out the third quarter and added another pair to start the fourth. That run of four flipped the Quakers’ two goal deficit into a two-goal lead.  Penn’s lead lasted for about three minutes when Rutgers scored twice in the middle of the final quarter. Rutgers added three more and led by three with just a minute showing on the clock.  Ten seconds later Penn pared the lead to one.  Rutgers won the final faceoff and frustrated further attempts by Penn.

DELAWARE 8

In a game of alternating scoring runs Cornell got the last run to take the win.

QUARTERFINALS

TUFTS (Garrett Kurtz) 17

SALISBURY (Jace Menendez) 10

Our last Bears versus Bears of the year!

Salisbury and Tufts swapped one-goal leads in the opening quarter then Tufts launched a six-goal run in the middle of the second quarter.  The Gulls rallied and trimmed Tufts’ lead to two goals twice in the third quarter, but Tufts capped the quarter with three goals and added two more in the fourth to take the win.

Garrett took one shot in the game.

RIT 20

BOWDOIN 14

A six-goal run in the second quarter and another in the third put RIT up by more than enough to withstand Bowdoin’s eight-goal explosion in the fourth quarter. Patrick Murdock GS of ’65Bear got in late and was 2 for 3 at X.

YORK 10  OT

CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT 9

The Captains rallied in the second half to get their first lead of the game, but York came back to tie the game and force overtime.  Christopher Newport had the possession advantage in overtime, but it was York that found the back of the goal.

SEMIFINALS

TUFTS (Garrett Kurtz) 13

RIT 26

RIT was up 2-1 early in the game when they scored eight straight goals over a seven minute span.  Tufts cut into that lead with a five-goal run that spanned the end of the first and the start of the second, but RIT offset that by closing out the first half with their own run of five in a row to lead by nine at the break.  After a nearly even third quarter (5-4 RIT), RIT poured it on again, scoring the first five goals of the fourth.  By then end of that run the Tigers were up by fifteen.  Two Jumbo goals closed out the contest.

Garrett took one shot in the game.

UNION 11

YORK 8

Union appeared to be running away with the game, scoring the first six goals of the game.  York made a run at Union in the second half, using a four-goal run to pull within two but Union stopped the comeback attempt and held on for the win.
