Bears Lax Trax Fax

In D-I action, there were no Bears vs. Bears game in this, the second week of the 2013 NCAA lacrosse season.
Maryland (Kellen Miller ’11) got the week off to a good start as the Terrapins beat up on Mount St. Mary’s 23-6 on Tuesday. Kellen was credited with a ground ball and a caused turnover in that game. On Saturday, Maryland traveled up to Hartford to take on the eponymous university, posting a 16-4 victory. Kellen had a caused turnover in that game, too.
Navy (Patrick Keena ’11) played Detroit on Friday and Patrick continued his strong start to his Navy lax career, scoring one goal and scooping up two ground balls.
The goaltending torch at Georgetown has been passed from one Bear to another. CT Fisher (’08) was a team captain last year and has now graduated. Saturday saw Alex Joyce (’12) start in the pipes for the Hoyas. Alex saved 10 of 21 shots on goal and saw a total of 38 shots in Georgetown’s overtime loss to Lafayette. Alex also had 8 ground balls and one caused turnover.
The Ohio State University played against the Dolphins of Jacksonville on NBC Sports Network. Luke Howard (’11) was spotted playing some EMD and Charlie Schnider (’12) got air time when the commentators mentioned that his shot in practice the day before “ripped a hole ” through the nets. The Buckeyes won 9-6.
In the first half of the same broadcast, the Denver Pioneers lost to Penn State’s Nittany Lions 15-12, but the official team statistics have not been released yet so the numbers on Harrison Archer‘s play are not yet known.
Duke (Josh Offit ’09) played a pair of games this weekend, dropping a 13-5 decision to Notre Dame on a snowy Saturday and then coming back on Sunday to down Mercer 15-3. In the first game, Josh had 2 goals on three shots and one ground ball. Josh got off 3 shots in the second game as well, but didn’t find the net.

Ohio Wesleyan (Tommy Minkler ’11) started off their season with an 11-9 win over Aurora. It seems Tommy will miss the 2013 season due to a knee injury suffered in the fall.
