Wrestling (4-1) :
The Bears ended the dual meet season tonight with a big victory over Georgetown Prep. This senior class has now beaten Prep three years in a row after they dominated the league for 13 years.
The match started at 106. John Bates showed a lot of heart tonight as he faced three tough opponents. Against Prep, he saved the team 2 team points by staying off his back against an experienced wrestler. At 113, Charlie Lynn earned a forfeit. Conrad Brady (120) got taken down in the first period and battled back. He pinned his guy halfway through the second period. It was time for the seniors to make an impact. Both Lorenzo Lopez (132) and Matt Amitay pinned their foes in the first period. Freshmen Nico Schermer (145) and Anthony Savoy (152) both receive forfeits. Senior Marc Schermer wrestled an exciting match that was going back and forth until he got another spladdle (for the ignorant, like me and my spellcheck, spladle is a wrestling technique commonly used as a counter and pinning move to single leg take downs). and quickly pinned his man. Marc has been sick and did this for the team. At 182, Senior Jerrold Johnson won a barn burner 9-8 with a takedown in the last seconds of the 3rd period. At 195, Will Abramson earned a major victory 21-11. He continues to improve every match. Eric Cao (220) faced the toughest Hoya. He is a nationally ranked wrestler and proved why tonight. Sachin Srikanth ended the match by receiving a forfeit.
Final Score: Bears 55 Hoyas 22
In the other two matches, the Bears lost 45-33 to Gilman and 45-36 to St. James.
Against Gilman, we had wins from Lopez (pin in 0:58), Nico Schermer (pin 3:49), Tyler Younge (3-2), and Lucas Macdonald (170) (pin in 2:39). Ty Reyes (195) and Jerrold Johnson (182) earned forfeits.
Against St. James, we had wins from Amitay (pin in 0:42), Younge (pin in 3:30), and Anthony Savoy (pin in 1:56). Lopez, Abramson, and Lynn received forfeits.
Of note: Lorenzo broke the 150 mark with 3 wins tonight. He now sits at 152 victories in his career. Amitay is inching closer to breaking 100. He sits at 97.
Landon 55 Prep 22
Gilman 45 Landon 33
St. James 45 Landon 36
