Spring Sports

Baseball (2-1) Landon baseball defeated Sidwell Friends 8-2 on Saturday to run its record to 2-1.  The Bears dispatched St. Anselm’s Abbey 15-0 earlier in the week following a loss to perennial powerhouse Bishop McNamara.

Against St. Anselm’s, pitchers Jed Rosenberg and Jake Davidson combined for a one-hit shutout.  Rosenberg started, pitched 3 innings, allowed 1 hit while striking out 4.  Davidson pitched the final two innings and struck out 4.  Mark Kalavritinos went 3 for 3 to lead the attack.  Sam Peraza had 2 hits, Jack Cope had one hit and scored 3 runs.

Against Sidwell, pitchers Jay Budin, Jack Cope and Will Barufka limited the Quakers to two hits and no earned runs.  They combined for 7 strikeouts.  Davidson had two hits and two RBI.  Barufka also had two hits, including a triple.  Jack Poston and Kalavritinos each contributed doubles, while Kit Dziak scored twice.

Golf Bears win their opening match of the 2019 season today, 209-224 against @GoodCounselGolf. Charles Nottingham (‘19) was low man for the match. Thanks to Bethesda CC, the Good Counsel Golf Team, and coach Jim Estes finish off the week 2-0 with a win over Paul VI, 204-234. Solid rounds by Charlie Bundy ‘21, Johnny Muller ‘20, and Charles Nottingham ‘19. Special thanks to Coach Tommy Smith and the PVI Panthers, and a fantastic job by Columbia CC and Mr. Dolan!

Lacrosse (2-2) Two losses to MIAA powerhouses, St. Paul’s and then St. Mary’s may be attributable to an unusually inexperienced team, but given the teaching abilities of the coaches, that lack of previous playing time may be are reason to believe that the Bears will grow as the schedule moves.

Outdoor Track and Field placed 3rd SSSA Early Bird Classic; Erick Speight had a 12.0 in the 100 for 3rd and a 24.91 in the 200 for 5th; Kaleb Sparks was 3rd in 400 with 59.22 followed by Nathaniel Castro in 5th in 1:00.6; in the 1,600 John Mangino earned a 3rd in 5:05. 14; Jelani Cross won the shotput at 34-03.00 with Shaun Lee back at 6th with 28-04.75; Jelani won the discus with a 76-01 throw
