Varsity Wrestling
From Coach Katz on the State tournament at McDonough –
Congratulations to the boys who traveled to McDonogh this weekend. Our team comprised of 2 Seniors, 2 Juniors, and 5 Freshmen. All the wrestlers represented well.
In the end, the team placed 14th overall out of 30 teams. Luc Schermer (113), Burke McLaughlin (120), and Parker Swensrud (126), all gained valuable experience at the State level. Ben Goodfriend (132), Brett Gallagher (145), and Brian Gelb (182) were one round away from placing in top eight.
Brendon Gallagher placed 5th place (seeded 7th) and earned a trip to Prep Nationals next weekend.
Senior Miles Franklin (152) finally earned a place on the podium. After suffering a knee injury last week, he toughed it up and earned an 8th place.
Finally, Senior Jarett Witzal (170) became the sixth Bear in Bear Wrestling History to become a finalist at the State Tournament. In addition, last night in the Semi-finals, Jarett earned his 100th career victory. Hopefully, he will continue to make history next week when he goes to Lehigh for Nationals.
Good luck to both Jarett and Brendon next week!

Varsity Basketball
The Bears finished the season with two losses. They lose 3 seniors from the roster, although those boys will be missed.
Varsity Hockey
The Bears beat Archbishop Spalding 5-1 in the 1st round of the MAPHL tournament. Then in spectacular fashion, Landon came back from two goal deficits, tied the game at 0:49.8 and scored in overtime to beat DeMatha.
A great game excellently captured in this picture of Patrick Giles score to win the game.
The MAPHL Championship is Tuesday at the Laurel Ice Gardens at 6pm against Calvert Hall. All good Bears should be there!
(Oh, by the way, almost 500 people clicked on the BSN post on the semi-final game, THANKS)

Bear Riflery Trax

Seth Flanagan competes for Wofford and scored, as shown above, in the NCAA’s qualifier at the Citadel.
Bear Hoops Trax
Danny Rubin, Hapoel Kazrin 8th place , beat 4th place Hapoel Midg 84-75.
Darion Atkins, UVA basketball (#2) Beat Pitt 61-49. This starter played 30 minutes he had 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks.
The UVA website included these DA quotes:
Virginia Senior Darion Atkins
On the team’s defense performance:“The last two games we did not perform defensively, and I think we came out right away and put our foot down on the defensive end tonight.”
On his individual defensive performance and role:“Whenever I see someone driving, I come over and wait until they try to release their shot and then I go up for it [the block].”
On playing without Justin Anderson:“Our defense has not let up. Because he is out, we need to translate our defensive momentum to the offensive end. We have people taking more shots, like London did tonight.”
On Evan Nolte’s performance:“He is playing really well. He has filled Justin’s void well. He is experienced and has been patient to wait for his shot to play, and I think he is going to continue to give us more.”
On Marial Shayok’s performance:“As soon as he hit the 3-pointer tonight he looked over at Justin, and Justin said, `Are you back?’ Marial said. `Yeah I’m back.’ I’m glad he hit that shot and hopefully he can keep staying aggressive on the offensive end.”
Joe McDonald, GWU basketball. The Colonials lost to Davidson 63-65. Joe started, played 35 minutes, scored 11 points, pulled down 11 boards, dished out 6 assists and 1 steal. At Richmond the Spiders won 56-48 with #22 starting, playing 35 minutes, scored 2 points, rebounded 5 and had 2 assists.
