The Indoor Track & Field season got off to a solid start with the Bears traveling down to Episcopal’s Flippin Fieldhouse for an early season non-scoring meet. Team Captain Jelani Cross ‘19 opened up the season with a personal record throw of 38’ 3½” for first place.  Sophomores Erick Speight and Kaleb Starks took 7th and 14th, respectively, in the 55-meter dash with Speight missing finals qualification by 0.03 seconds.  Nathaniel Castro ‘21 took third in the 300-meter dash with a personal record run of 40.07.  The meet concluded with a spirited 4 x 400-meter relay effort by Castro, Cross, Starks, and Speight.   The Bears came from behind to win their heat ahead of Georgetown Day School and finished second overall in a time of 3:55.95.  Kevin Bai ‘21, Mac Gibby ‘22, and Pernell Leamon ‘21 performed well in their first indoor experience. Landon will finish out the 2018 portion of the season at Georgetown Prep this Wednesday.  Complete results can be found here.

  • Wrestling – WaPo #8 (2-0 in duals)

    • Landon 49 Bishop Ireton 27 by Coach Katz

The match started at 170.  Junior Jerrold Johnson started the Bears off correctly with a pin in the first period.  Followed by Senior Captain Jelani Machen, Jelani upped his record to 6-0 with a 45 second pin.  At 195 Dameon Ming notched his first win on his belt with a 10-3 decision. Miles Tonkel received a forfeit at 220.  Eric Cao was wrestling a good match at 285 until he got tossed to his back for a loss.  The BI streak continued through our lower weights at Osmond, Zola, and Townsend got knocked off making the team score 24-20 BI.  At 126 & 132, Captains Axel Giron and Lorenzo Lopez turned things back around each with quick pins as the two spent a total of 50 seconds on the mat.  Matt Amitay continued his winning ways by beating one of their best wrestlers 7-4.  Patrick Kielb solidified the team victory with a pin in the second period.  Lucas Anderson dropped a close 4-1, while Marc Schermer ended the match with another quick pin.

We managed to get in 9 exhibition matches. Our young wrestlers had a great day. They went 8-1.  Andrew Hohlt,Yobany Matos, Alden Adkins, Graysin St. Aubin, Peter Van Allen, Sachin Srikanth, David Diaz, and Miles Tonkel all earned hard fought victories.  Daniel Samuel wrestled well but was not able to hold of his tough opponent.
