Dual Versus Sidwell Friends

With 9 new wrestlers in the line-up, the Bears were able to beat Sidwell with a 59-21 win.  We won 10 of the 14 matches at the Varsity level and we went 7-1 in exhibition matches.  We had several freshmen earn their first varsity victory in high school. The story of the night was with FRESHMAN ALEX POPE.  He came to Sidwell expecting an exhibition match.  When our Senior 165 lb wrestler was not allowed to wrestle because of a skin issue.  We bumped senior Connor Koegel from 157 up to 165 and filled the gap with Alex.  As an inexperienced wrestler but very athletic, ALEX won by technical fall with many beautiful double leg take downs.  Alex also wrestled his exhibition match and pinned him his opponent in18 seconds. Other freshmen who made an impact were 106 ELIJAH ADAMS (won by forfeit), 113 TEDDY ABRAMSON (2nd period pin), and 285 JASON HINTON (also 2nd period pin).  Our other victors were CONNOR KOEGEL (1st period pin), Junior 150 LOUIS MCNAMARA (1st period pin), Senior 215 TILLER SMITH (1st period pin), & Sophomore 126 DOMINGO ESCUDERO (1st period pin). Finally, Junior 138 JOE PAPALIA and Sophomore 144 MAX MURRAY both won by forfeit. Kudos to Sophomores 120 JUDAH BROWN, 132 LUKE YANG, 175 ALEX LING, and freshman MACK DOCKX for making the line-up and representing well.

In the exhibition matches, we had first period pins by Sophomores 126 IAN HERR AND 157 DANIEL KAHN, FIRST YEAR WRESTLER 132 COLE TIBBS, AND JUNIOR 215 NICK DAVIDOFF.  First year wrestler OLIVER LAFUENTE won by pin late in the 3rd period.  I don’t think he has ever been that tired, but got the job done. Both Pope and freshman 126 Patrick DeZee won by technical fall (by more than 15 points)

Our next challenge is this weekend, when we split the team into two different tournaments: Mad Mats at Magruder High School, and the Holloway at St. James.  Go Bears!
