BEARSPORTSNEWS SUNDAY EDITION 11.05.2023

BearSportsNews Sunday EditionHomecoming Weekend with 2 memories

HIGHLIGHTS

A Landon Legend, Coach Hanker, passed away recently and AD Bill Brady provided one of many touching memories of this volunteer coach. An exterior as rough as rock, but a mentor who knew what to say or do to raise spirits, inspire competition, establish discipline, and embody sportsmanship. Those, so moved by this man, mounted a plaque in his honor on the north end of the Landon stands. Coach still is part of the school’s athletic tradition; for as the Bears enter the stadium for a game, they all recognize that legacy by touching his plaque

“[Coach Jim Hanker] insisted on pride. Be proud of who you are. Show pride in all that you do. Help out the other fellow…” Michael Banks ’92 shares how Coach Hanker and Landon have shaped his life.
