THE BEARS ARE CHARGING BACK!!!
HIGHLIGHTS
INSIDE THE WHITE ROCKS
***A common comment for all Fall teams is that they all have very challenging scheduled!!!
Fall Sports
Varsity Cross Country—Coach Hunt has an interesting squad with experienced and young runners. The meets begin in Ohio, journeys to Sandy Springs for an “Interstate Classic”, hosts its own Invitational with Boys Latin and GP, travels to a meet in the Bronx, stops at Mercersburg, PA and comes back to the DMV for three tournaments.
Maryland Boys Preseason Composite XC Team Rankings has the Bears as #24, and no other IAC team ranked (STA and EHS not in MD)!!!
Varsity Football—Coach Padalino only lost 9 seniors; so there will be experience at every position. On Saturday, there was a triangular scrimmage with WCAC McNamara (’16 4-6; 21 seniors) and Prince George’s 4A Eleanor Roosevelt (’16, 8-4; 24 seniors). The Bears looked good—holding their own against big lineman, showing lots of speed at skill position.
The ’17 schedule includes 2 MIAA B teams– Boys Latin (’16, 7-4) and St. Mary’s (16, 4-6), VISAA’s St. Christopher (’16, 5-4), Walt Whitman (’16, 6-4)
Varsity Soccer—a solid line-up of seniors returns for Coach Reed. Before the usually competitive IAC season, the Bears face a trip to Richmond, Georgetown Day, Bishop McGuinness High School (N.C.), Good Counsel, Gonzaga, Sidwell Friends, McNamara and the Heights.
Water Polo—Coach Bartman’s team will start its season soon with Gilman (a), a trip to Philadelphia (Germantown, Episcopal, Penn Charter, Haverford, Friends Central, Malvern), then to McDonogh (for a classic there), Loyola (h), Gonzaga(h), Calvert (h), all before September, Gonzaga (h), USNA Battle of the Beltway, the Big Bear, Beast of the East (PA), Gilman Challenge, Whitman (h), Navy Classic, Bartman Viola Classic, Eastern Preps and Metro Championship.
Summer News
John Geppert ’18, M, Landon (Md.) / Madlax — MarylandA hard-nosed and physical middie who excels at shooting with his feet set, Geppert put together a 31-goal and 13-assist season for co-National Champion Landon. Geppert makes his money largely as a right-handed step-down shooter. Geppert flipped from Bucknell to Maryland in late July. It feels like a good fit, as the Terps love a good shooting midfielder and incorporate skip passes heavily into their offense
