Winter Sports
Basketball – (19-10) In 1st round of MD Private School State Basketball Tournament beat MIAA B Champions and 7 game winning streak St. Mary’s of Annapolis 70-58.

Then the Bears ran into 30-6, WaPo #11 Shabach Christian Academy, a team that played a mostly national schedule, losing only to big time competition (like Oak Hill Academy, St. Frances Academy (Baltimore)). A 60-90 outcome shows a margin in score. But not effort. The Bears exhibited Coach Turner’s 1000% effort approach to the game- contesting their opponents 84’ every second of the game and an O that pushes the ball as soon as the other team’s shot misses. It will be interesting to see the 2023-2024 hoops team.
IAC honors

The season is not complete for one Landon player
Tyler has been honored with an invitation to the prestigious Capital Classic, the nation’s most legendary high school basketball All-American game (Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2:00PM at the Events DC Entertainment & Sports Arena) [tickets]

Hockey – (13-3-3) Coach Parker’s skaters completed a successful season with conference and league honors:

In All-IAC voting, Reid Pehrkon was named PLAYER OF THE YEAR. Owen Calderone, Arthur Smink, and Graham Haberl were also named to the All-IAC team. In All-MAPHL voting, Reid was named to 1st team All-MAPHL. Quinn Farland and Sebby Kenary also received votes from coaches across both leagues.
Over 11 years of attending Bears’ hockey games, the hallmark of every team has been the difference between their structure/discipline in November and how they play in playoff time. This year little things were evident– their success in breakout plays, dominance between the blue lines, wins at F/Os, selfless passing, sound D, to name a few of Coach’s ice lesson plans.
Indoor Track schedule shows next meet in April. In the interim, a Bear is putting down national times:

Swimming and Diving season complete
Wrestling Coach KATZ’s grapplers completed the most impressive IAC season (undefeated in regular matches and dominant in tournament) and in post season tournaments!!!

Spring Sports
Baseball promising squad under Coach Reed starts this week to begin a 20+ game season.
NOTE: Coach Powers gets a warm welcome in his new position. Good luck.
Golf– Coach Luther returns a talented group of linksmen and heads to Baltimore to get their first scores.
LacrosseCoach McGettigan’s roster will be challenged by its schedule in the ridiculously competitive DMV lax land. First game at Severn on March 7
Rugby New Coach Tyler brings experience of college club scrums to a band of Bears who have shown a trend of year-over-year improvements.
TennisRacquets Coach Miller moves to the outside courts where visitors may be intimidated by the surrounding construction.
Track Based on the indoor times, Coach Dichiara should have an interesting season. The first meet is on the Ides of March.
