  • Wrestling from Coach Reed We are halfway there in earning the IAC title….. tonight, we wrestled our final two dual meets against IAC opponents: St. Albans and Episcopal.  We are officially 5-0 in the league and have clinched at least part of the IAC title.  Thank you to the alumni and fans that showed up tonight.  It was pretty crowded in the Perkins gym and it definitely got real loud.  In our first match against Gonzaga, we started off pretty slow.  We went down 21-6 in the first 5 matches.  Sophomore stud Talan Smith entered the mat for the first time this season and pinned his opponent in 1:33.  At 165, Nate Furgeson got the ball rolling with a 10-4 victory.  The then rattled off 6 straight pins to take the lead for good: DP Pope (175), Anthony Savoy (190), Tiller Smith (215), Ty Reyes (285), Joe Papalia (106), and Makana Neverosky (113).

Final Score: Landon 45 Gonzaga 30

In round 2, we wrestled St. Albans.  They weighed in 10 wrestlers.  We won 9 of the 10 in dominating style.  Freshman Ryan Zand started off the streak at 138 with a pin 1:31. The Bears rattled off 6 pins and 5 forfeits.  Talan Smith, Conrad Brady, Hugh Neill, DP Pope, Ty Reyes, Joe Papalia were the pinners with Talan and Joe being the fastest pins: 20 and 27 seconds respectivelyFreshman Louis McNamara ended the match at 132 with another pin.

Final Score: Landon 78 St Albans 6

In Round 3, we wrestled Episcopal.  They filled 8 weight classes.  The heart of their line-up is in the upper weights where they had some experienced wrestlers.  Unfortunately for them, they were not tough enough.  We won all 8 matches wrestled.  Ryan Zand, Conrad Brady, Hugh Neill, DP Pope, David LaPrade, Tiller Smith, Ty Reyes all pinned their opponents.  Nate Furgeson won a tough match 8-1.  The Team earned a part of the IAC title, along with their second shut out of the season.

Final Score: Landon 78 Episcopal 0
