BASKETBALL—4-1 1after a loss of St. Mary’s (Annapolis) , Coach Turner’s team (he involves many of his players) has beaten Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School (69-57), St. John’s Prep (Frederick) 68 – 55 and the returning PVAC champs McLean School of Maryland (74 – 36)
HOCKEY— 1-0 The Bears have hit the ice three times. The only game that counts was a 9-0 win against SSSA. Scrimmages against St. John’s College High School and GP showed how their opposition benefits from starting as much as months before Coach Sears gets his charges at the Bears’ Den

WRESTLING

The Bears had their first competition since February of 2020. It was amazing to get back on the mat. We faced an always solid Sidwell Friends team in our home den 63-18.
The match started at 138 pounds. Conrad Brady (Junior) got the train rolling with a 13-0 major decision. At 145, sophomore sensation Will Levy masterfully handled his opponent 17-2 for a technical fall. At 152, Senior Captain Daniel Robinson pinned one of Sidwell’s best wrestlers in the first period. At 160, Junior Nico Schermer continues the Schermer tradition win a pin in the 3rd period. Nico follows his brothers Luc ’18 and Marc ’20. At 170, freshman Marshall Hyman does a great job in his first competition but lost against a tough Senior. Sidwell forfeited out the rest of the upper weights…. 182 Junior Captain Will Abramson, 195 freshman Tiller Smith, 220 Junior Ty Reyes, and Junior 285 Gabe Johnson. At 106, Theo Shockey fought hard against an experienced Quaker. He scored several takedowns before getting caught on his back. At 113, first year wrestler Seamus McNamara faced Sidwell’s toughest wrestler and fell in the first period. At 120, first year Junior Colin Redmond earned his first ever victory. His aggressive style proved to be too much for his opponent who stopped wrestling for a medical forfeit. Our final match who wrestled was freshman Talan Smith at 126. He had the quickest pin of the day in 11 seconds. Sidwell ended the match forfeiting to Junior Jibreel Muhammad. T
he final score was Landon 63 Sidwell 18.
This weekend, the team will split up and attend two tournaments– the Ray Oliver at McDonogh and the Holloway at St. James. We will be tested at both tournaments to see where we are as this season moves forward. Go Bears.
