Inside the White Rocks

FOOTBALL (4-3) Bears 13 EHS 12—a battle worthy of opponents who have played for decades. The IAC is not normal this year and who knows what team will nwin.
SOCCER (12-2-2)
LANDON 5 BULLIS 2
Typical IAC insanity tonight at Bullis. 30+ mph gusts, wind chill, some Bullis kid with an electrified megaphone chirping at Landon kids by name, all of it. We were never really threatened, and we played arguably some of our best soccer of the season, but the scoresheet tells the story:
8:00 Fletcher (Schermer)
30:00 Fletcher (Keys)
Half time: Landon 2 Bullis 0
47:00 Bullis (After Fletch got pick-pocketed goofing around with the ball in the box)
53:00 Trowern (unassisted)
74:00 Fletcher (Della Rocca)
75:00 Bullis (More shenanigans when one of our centerbacks tried to dribble his way out of the 18 box. Cardinal sin.)
79:00 Della Rocca (Febles)
Full time: Landon 5 Bullis 2
What doesn’t show up was all of the gorgeous build up play, time after time after time. We really looked great, until the 18 box, when the Bullis GK played out of his mind. He made 3 – 4 one on one saves, easily. Impressive.
LANDON1 STA 2 O/T
Conrad Brady and Moses Fishman were monsters in the middle of the field today, pulling strings all over the place. Carlos Febles also played at an All-IAC level.
Entertaining game today out on Prindle. I
f you came out to catch some soccer, you were treated to some end to end attacking play, great saves, great shots and high drama.
Art Keys and Kris Fletcher created several dangerous chances throughout the first half, but no goals. The STA goalkeeper did just enough to keep us out.
The first goal of the game came in the 62:00 when Conrad Brady looped a corner kick into the penalty box and Marc Schermer finished, 1 – 0.
St. Albans pushed players forward after that and eventually earned a penalty kick, which Will Single got a piece of, but it went in, 1 – 1 in the 74:00.
The last five minutes were what you’d expect, frantic, anxious, long balls, and no goals. In the IAC we play “golden goal” overtime and St. Albans played a ball down our right side, their winger turned the corner and found a teammate open at the back post, 1 – 2, and the game was over.
Tough day for the boys, but virtually all of the boys who played had good moments. We still have the tournament next week to look forward to and on Tuesday we will host a semi-final against the winner of the #3 v #6 seeds, potentially Georgetown Prep. Should be another hot one.
WATER POLO— no matches this week
CROSS COUNTRY @ IAC Championships, the Bears placed 2nd as a team and Asim Hakim-Florian comes in 3rd.

LACROSSE— another Bear goes DIV I–Owen Calderone-
