FOOTBALL (3-2)

SOCCER (8-2-2)

Landon 4 SSSA 1

The game against SSSA was particularly gratifying.  We won big, Kris Fletcher had a hat trick and showed why he will soon be a paid professional.  Conrad Brady scored possibly the most electrifying goal of the season to date with a rocket from 25+ yards.  By the 55:00, our 2s were all on the field and outplayed their 1s by a mile.  Zach Anderson had his best game of the season, and Sebby Kenary, Willis Reed, Lucas Canedo, Will Cohen, and Vince Ingram created 4 – 5 legitimate chances.  Really fun to watch.

If you haven’t seen Kris Fletcher play yet this fall, it’s worth your time.  I’m sure some of you have heard the talk around the halls and it’s all true.  His trajectory is heading straight north these days.  Over the summer he went on pro trials with Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.  Dortmund made him a convincing offer.  Earlier this week, Manchester United of the British Premier League invited him to come over for a trial in mid-November.  Almost every IAC team has had a player turn professional at some point in the last two decades.  Now, it’s our turn

Landon 7 British International School 0

just managed to get under cover after our game this afternoon.  Here’s the quick and dirty:

8:00  Fletcher  (unassisted)

10:00  Brady  (Keys/Trowern)

19:00  Keys  (Ellwood)

24:00  Fletcher  (Trowern/Febles)

60:00  Fletcher  (Matheson)

70:00  Lewis  (Canedo)

72:00  Ellwood  (unassisted)

The headline news today is that Kris Fletcher snapped the modern-era scoring record, held by Jake Samperton, ’05.  It was more than a little gratifying to have that happen on Prindle, on Homecoming, with several soccer alumni on hand.  He also roared past the modern-era points record for a season, previously held by Andrew Fenwick, ’02.  Kris now takes aim at the all-time Landon record of 20 goals/42 points in a season, set in 1981.  Both are well within reach.

Needless to say, everyone played.  JV call-up Charlie Burr stood out in the second half at CM, composed, poised and unflappable.  Mac Gibby also did well at centerback.

We’re away to Georgetown Prep on Tuesday at 4:15, a game that will do much to dictate the conference championship.  Should be another hot one.
