        Bye week—SSSA next weekend

SOCCER (6-1-2) (Coach Reed’s recaps are the BEST)

LANDON 2 THE HIGH SCHOOL 1

Fairly pedestrian game today.  Episcopal came in with a chance to leapfrog us into first place with a win.  However, they used a tactic commonly referred to as “parking the bus”, meaning, put 8-9 players behind the ball don’t defend until below the circle, and try to counter with long balls.  Theoretically, the other team falls asleep and gets caught with too many players up the field.

Conrad Brady slid the ball through their back line and into the path of Kris Fletcher, who carried and finished neatly, 1-0 in the 21:00.  Kickoff, Episcopal lobbed it over the top, we fumbled around, tried to pass back to our GK, miscommunication, 1-1 in the 22:00.  Just like that. Lots of hand-wringing for half an hour or so, even though we had the ball most of the time.  We drew a foul in the 67:00 and Fletch stood over it for a bit before hitting a rocket straight through the GK’s hands from 25+.  Shocking strike.  Felt badly for him. 2-1

Conrad and Moses Fishman looked like pros out there today and Dylan Thiess and Art Keys contained their VCU-bound forward.  Zac Osmond bailed us out late when they managed to hit a cross to the back post, where their winger sat alone.  Ibra, Jack and I saw it develop and used our outdoor voices to “encourage” Zac to run and cover the guy, just in the nick of time.  All good.

3-0 in the league so far.   Thanks again to Clare for running the scoreboard!

LANDON 6 BULLIS 2

it was a Tale of Two Halves today on Prindle Field:

1st Half:

We were ordinary.

Landon:  7:00  Osmond (Della Rocca)

Half Time:  Coaches used outdoor voice to “encourage” the players to “play better”.

2nd Half:

We were good.

45:00 Osmond (Fishman)

47:00 Fletcher (Della Rocca)

55:00 Fletcher (Thiess)

60:00 Cohen (Osmond)

68:00 Schnider (Tewksbury)

70:00 Bullis

78:00 Bullis

Everyone played, nobody got hurt.  The usual suspects, Thiess, Keys, Schermer, Steinglass, Brady, Fishman, Della Rocca (first IAC start), Osmond, Ellwood, and Fletcher, staked us a four-goal lead by the 55:00 and we emptied the bench.  Zach Anderson played well on his IAC debut and JV call-up Jackson Tewksbury did likewise.

4 – 0 in the IAC.  Six games left in the regular season.  Tuesday at St. Albans (6 – 0 winners at Episcopal today) will be a stern test on their plastic grass field.  Enjoy the long weekend!

WATER POLO— no matches this week.

LACROSSE HALL OF FAME INDUCTION

Much has been written about Teacher/Mentor/Coach Bordley L’66 because his story is broad, deep and achievement. Last Saturday (10/2), the US Lacrosse Association inducted this Bear into its much venerated Hall of Fame. This event honored eight of the most distinguished contributors to this sport; each inductee was accompanied by many teammates, players, coaches and admirers. The Bears present  were over 1/3 of all in the room. We’re proud of this BEAR.
