Coach Reed’s MOST EXCELLENT report– Yesterday’s game was fun. We had some good moments, good stretches, had some when we weren’t at our best, and still won big and never really felt any pressure. Kris Fletcher got us on the board early when Conrad Brady put him through from the left edge in the 5:00, 1 – 0. Things remained that way for the rest of the half, which was a little frustrating.
Good start to the second half, and then we blew it open. Fletch got played into the right corner of the field with a defender hot on his tracks. He chased down a bouncing pass and as the defender closed in, he cheekily flicked it over the defender’s head and into space behind him, did the same thing to the cover defender who had raced over to help, drove into the penalty box, and slipped the ball to Ben Ellwood on the back post, 2 – 0, in the 49:00. It was audacious to even attempt the move once, let alone twice, and pull it off. Less than a minute later, our backline cut out a through ball and found Fletch in the center circle. He drove straight up the middle and, as defenders collapsed on him, found Conrad streaking in from his left, 3 – 0. Fletch tacked one on in the 66:00, routine finish, for good measure, 4 – 0. We had begun replacing the first line with the second line after the third goal and they finished things off, conceding a harmless goal in the 79:00, one minute from full time. Resounding win, Fletch was outstanding, everyone played, nobody got hurt, good result.
Art Keys and Dylan Thiess put out the few brush fires that erupted on the day. Smart work from them. In the middle of the field, Moses Fishman continued to impress; he’s having a strong season thus far. Owen Fernandes, Andre Schnider, and Mac Gibby nicknamed “The Swiss Army Knives”, because of their overall utility and willingness to come in off the bench wherever, whenever, helped us maintain control, especially when the score was still 1 – 0.
WATER POLO–Landon heads to the semi-final game in our flight at Beast of the East Landon 14-12 Reading; Bears 11-7 Hazleton; Bears 14 Perk Valley 9
