Inside the White Rocks

Catching up on all Landon Varsity Athletes:  Hockey captures IAC tournament trophy to complement its Regular Season Championship;  Wrestlers take their IAC crowns to MIS tournament; BBall win six in a row to reach a showdown against Bullis;Swim & Dive doing well at Easterns; Runner sets new Landon sprint time

 Alumni—- 

 Bears playing all the next level(s)-pro, college Div. I & III, college club and developmental programs:E1 Bear moving up a BASKETBALL— 1 pro BB player major factor for his Italian team; one Bear is coaching an ACC team; two college hoopsters lead their team in key stats (1 DIV. I and one Div. III); and 2 more playing for their teams.

HOCKEY—2 pros in same competitive league 2 Div. III college both players getting time on ice as freshmen; 5 are playing in developmental leagues (one committed to Brown); 5 contributing to theirCollege Club teams; one playing for aFounders’ League team AND scores

Winter Sports

  • Hockey – (11-2-2) Coach Parker’s skater followed a pattern of the 2020 team—2 consecutive overtime wins—in the IAC semifinal 4-3 over StA on a Reid Pehrkon goal and a 3-2 win in a shootout over Bullis– Phillip Sears making a key stop to secure the Championship Trophy. MAPHL next Wednesday with another visit from the Potomac Bulldogs.

  • Wrestling from Coach KATZ’s grapplers facing tough competition:

  • Basketball – (18-8) won 1st round of IAC tournament with a 75-58 over EHS with another special game by Tyler Perkins but the run ended in Potomac

THIS WEEK Landon recognized Michael Hemann for his shooting v. GP

Coach Turners Bears could not repeat their previous upset of the Potomac Bulldogs losing 45-64 even though Perkins hit for 20 and Devin Stewart’s 10. Great job by the players and exceptional teaching by the coaches. 2024 has promise

Antonio “Tone” Cockrell L’17, Colonial States Athletic Conference Assistant Commissioner of Strategic Initiatives, ATTENDS PAC-12 HEALTH and EQUITY Summit: Race, Gender, Identity and Accessibility MATTER

Tone was a student-athlete at Keystone College. A member of the men’s basketball team, Cockrell was a 1,000-point scorer and a multiple All-CSAC selection including a first-team selection during the 2019-2020 and 2021-22 seasons. Away from the court, he received the Business Award for Academic Excellence from Keystone in Spring 2021, while graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2021 with a 3.9 GPA majoring in Business with an Economics minor. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in men’s basketball during the 2019-20 season
