WRESTLING Coach Katz’s write-up of his meet v. Good Counsel is marvelous as usual:
We are back….. after a long hiatus, we were able to compete again tonight for the first time since Dec 19th. We wrestled a solid WCAC competitor who placed third in the Magruder tournament we won back in December. They had 10 place winners with 2 champs.
Tonight, it was all Bears… we won 11 of the 14 matches for a 56-16 victory.
The match started at 106. Theo Shockey continues to improve every match. He won a major decision 9-0.
Daniel Samuel (120) and Talon Smith (126) received forfeits. At 132,
Conrad Brady won by technical fall. Will Levy (145) pinned his opponent in 1:09.
Daniel Robinson won by injury default early in the match when the Good Counsel wrestler hurt his ankle pretty badly.
At 160, Nate Furgeson made his debut after surgery and a long recovery from a thumb injury in football. He did not disappoint as he won by technical fall: 17-2.
Will Abramson (182) won a close one 3-2.
Tiller Smith pinned at 195, and George Allen received a forfeit at 220.
The highlight of the night was at 285. Ty Reyes wrestled his first match of the year, and it was a definite crowd pleaser. He defeated the #13 ranked wrestler in MD and #5 in MD private schools. At the end of the first period, he hit an awesome headlock and went up 5-0. He managed to hang on the rest of the match winning with the final score 5-1 and the team bench on their feet cheering him on.
Next week is a busy week. We have a make-up match in addition to our two scheduled matches. We will wrestle 5 matches over three days, including 3 IAC matches: 1/19 is a tri-meet with Georgetown Prep and the Potomac School, 1/20 is St. Stephens St. Agnes, and 1/21 is Episcopal and St. James
