BEARS to scrimmage Viking neighbors on Saturday morning (8/28 @ 10am)
Coach Padalino will get a good chance to assess the progress of the Bears 2010 FB team when Walt Whitman High School’s Vikings travel down Whittier Lane to Wilson Boulevard. WWHS was 8-3 (6-0 MoCo West) in 2009 and return some key players from that squad (from a variety of sources which may or may not be 100% accurate; WWHS does not have info listed yet on the WaPo, Inside Football or MaxPreps sites):
#12 Henry Kuhn (6’1″, 175#) last year’s starting QB,the Head Coach’s son, and Montgomery County’s best dropback quarter back (according to The Gazette),
#41 Tony Atkinson (5’10”, 205#), ILB and captain,
#4 Michael Flack (6’1″, 180#). WR/DB,
#72 Jeff Schaeffer (6’3″, 275#) OL/DL and
according to the Gazette the Vikings have a large offensive line.
The Vikings have two prominent FB alumni– Tony Dilweg who played QB at Duke under Coach Spurrier and then played for the Packers and then Bears; Ryan Kuehl who played center at UVa, and then long snap center with the 49ers, Redskins, Browns and Giants.
The Bears have had 14 practices over the past 9 days (many of them in the 90 degree weather). The team has some size, speed and lots of spirit. It’s too early to talk about any specific players, because all 50+ boys are still fighting for places on the team and starting positions.
THIS IS A NEW BSN FEATURE, PREVIEWS WILL BE POSTED BEFORE FUTURE GAMES. IF YOU HAVE ANY “INTELLIGENCE ABOUT AN UPCOMING OPPONENT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
In addition to the previews, BSN will include Senior Profiles which will give information about these boys who contribute so much to Landon football.
BSN will also track Bears playing at the Next Level [BEAR TRAX ]. Delonte Wellington (Trinity), John Blizzard (W&L), Jeff Izom (Brown) and Will Snyderwine (Duke) are playing college football this Fall and hopefully Ray Lynn will make it on the University of Maryland final roster. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER BEARS WHO ARE STILL PLAYING. Tracking the boys at the next level is more difficult in football than other sports. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, even just that “Johnny is playing at Ivy U” is a tremendous HELP. By learning that someone is playing at a specific school helps to track player.
In fact, our first Bear Trax report is on Will from GoDukeWill Snyderwine Article (click on this to see the article)

(a) the content is mine, does not reflect the opinion of Landon, Coach Padalino or anyone directly related to Landon, (b) that any errors that may exist are mine, inadvertent and correctable (please let me know and I will make ALL corrections);(c) that the author (me) is a huge disciple of the Landon team concept and that I will do everything that I can do to mention all the players; however, universal coverage is not really possible through this medium. If someone believes that a player or group (offense/defense; linemen/backs/ LBs/DB/Ss/P, etc.) should receive greater attention, I am open to such suggestions. I will not mention referees at any time and will limit references to the opposition.(d) that BSN is a volunteer publication and that as the editor, publisher, statistician and writer [me], I am all too fallible and I apologize in advance for any error.
