WINTER SPORTS

Hockey WaPo Hockey POY

Reid Pehrkon, F, Sr., Landon | Winning this award for a second straight season, Pehrkon dazzled in his final high school campaign. The dynamic forward totaled 21 goals and 12 assists in Mid-Atlantic Prep Hockey League play and 11 points in the Bears’ playoff run. He led Landon to a MAPHL title, scoring the game-tying goal with less than a minute remaining and then pitching in a tally in the shootout. He is committed to Babson College.

  • BASEBALL—COACH MARTINEZ’s nine has a 7-3 (landon.net) [9.6 (MaxPreps.com)] a 3 game winning streak was interrupted by a 3-4 loss to Jackson-Reed in 8 innings with Zach Burstein going 2/4 batting a double and an RBI.

  • GOLF—COACH LUTHER’s squad beats SJCHS and SSSA and faces always top flight StA on 4/7.

  • LACROSSE— COACH McGETTIGAN added 6 consecutive wins to the record, putting 18 shots past those goalies- most recently ……Landon Lacrosse 20 Riverside 3….. | Bear65’s Blog and LANDON LACROSSE 16         SSSA 2 | Bear65’s Blog

  • RUGBY—COACH DR. SAM TYLER’s team beat SJCHS 25-7 and faces Alexandria City 4/9

  • TENNIS—COACH MILLER L’86, lost to Sidwell Friend 1-6 then won 1st IAC match 6-1 over SSSA

  • TRACK—COACH GRIFFIN GAGNON hosted a massive coed meet with a total of 9 schools Mercersburg’s indoor track benefitted them in this early season meet sweeping both boys and girls; the Bears came in 3rd ; here are all of the individual results—several PRs and earned team points– Willard Freeman (‘28), Russell DeCain (‘25); Frankie Mannino (‘25); Njuguna Ngugi (’26) and the Bear 4×200 relay won
