INSIDE THE WHITE ROCKS

  • BASKETBALLCoach Chris Bohlen’s team earned a win

over  Bethel Academy at the St. James MLK Classic and then loss the StA in an away game 62-77

  • ICE HOCKEY COACH PARKER scheduled a match against the Kiski School of Saltsburg, Pa., a section of that Commonwealth known for tough hockey . His Bears prevailed 9-4 and then decisively beat StA 5-2 at the St. James.

  • WRESTLING – Coach Katz’s report on his team’s recent triangular meet:

  • The Bears faced a challenging week, as illnesses swept through the school and took a toll on the wrestling team. Five starters, along with several other team members, were sidelined at various points during the week. Although a few wrestlers returned just before the match, they were far from full strength. The absence of two key competitors, Captain Theo Shockey and Senior Connor Koegel, left gaps in the lineup, particularly in crucial matchups. To adapt, the team had to shuffle the lineup to cover as many holes as possible.

  • MATCH 1: LANDON 41 GEORGETOWN PREP 33

  • The night’s standout performance came from freshman TEDDY ABRAMSON (113), who delivered in dramatic fashion. Trailing by more than five points in the third period, he turned his opponent and secured a clutch pin, resulting in at least a nine-point swing in the team score. Junior NICK DAVIDOFF also fought hard, overcoming some tense moments on his back before earning a pin.

  • At the heavier weights, Junior OLIVER LAFUENTE (215) and Senior TILLER SMITH (285) each picked up crucial forfeits. Freshman ELIJAH ADAMS (106) had the quickest pin of the night, finishing his match in just 15 seconds. Juniors JOE PAPALIA (138) and MAKANA NEVEROSKY (144) sealed the victory with pins against tough opponents. Makana electrified the crowd with an impressive throw during his match.

  • Freshman PATRICK DEZEE (132) and Junior KEDREN SMITH (150) stepped up to fill spots in the lineup, while Sophomore MAX MURRAY (157) and JUNIOR LOUIS MCNAMARA (165) bumped up weight classes to cover the gaps. It was a hard-fought team effort, and despite the challenges, the Bears came together to secure a gutsy win.

  • PAUL VI 56 LANDON 24

  • The top team in the WCAC and one of the best in Virginia Privates showed why they hold such a high ranking. Despite missing four starters due to illness, PVI dominated the Bears with a strong performance. While there were several exciting matches that went back and forth, the PVI wrestlers seemed to have the edge in the closest contests.

  • The highlight of the night came at 120, where sophomore DENNIS LEARY bumped up a weight to face a tough opponent. In an action-packed bout filled with flurries and momentum swings, both wrestlers managed to put each other on their backs. The match ended in dramatic fashion, with Dennis turning his opponent to his back to tie the score, but his opponent escaped with just five seconds remaining to win 20-19. It was one of the highest-scoring matches we’ve seen this season.

  • The Bears’ wins came from JASON HINTON, who received a forfeit at 285, ELIJAH ADAMS, who secured yet another pin, JOE PAPALIA, who earned his second pin of the night, and sophomore MAX MURRAY, who bounced back with a strong pin after a tough loss in the Prep match.

Looking ahead, next Saturday is the IAC Championship at St. Albans, which promises to be an exciting and competitive event. The league has grown stronger and more competitive this year. While the Bears have likely secured the dual meet portion of the title, they will need to wrestle Episcopal after the tournament to make it official. To claim this year’s title outright, the Bears will need to perform at their best at the tournament and finish strong.
