BEARS SPORT NEWS– SPECIAL EDITION

This website was created to create content about Bears, inside and beyond the White Rocks. The more, the better. Collecting and sharing pictures, scores, special moments enriches the Bear Sports News.

One of the best sources for these rich details that makes the blog so much fun is THE friends who send content.

Growing in DC and enjoying sports, one woke up in the morning to try to get the sports page before your Dad. The Washington Post had a gifted columnist, Shirley Povich. He brought a richness to sports which inspires those who love these contest.

Mr. Povich’s family is replete with great Bears: David ’54, Maury ’57, Douglas ’78. Andrew ’78, Sam McDonough L’10,  Alex ’12 {quirky note: Shirley’s favorite sport was baseball. Both of his grandsons were lacrosse stars!}

With that background and with permission, the Shirley Povich Award is being established for those who have been a BIG HELP in reporting Bear Sports News (there are many in the past who deserve this award; too many to list retrospectively.)
