Division I

Lots of firsts for Bears from the class of 2022:
Hunter Taylor saw his first D-I action, saving ten of the fifteen shots he faced and making a huge contribution to Michigan picking its first win of the season.
Cameron Brown of Dartmouth scored his first collegiate goal, giving Big Green the lead late in the game.
Cullen Brown of Ohio State also saw his first D-I playing time,
The Ivy League teams started their seasons and now all the D-I teams that we follow have their seasons going.
GAME RECAPS
Dartmouth(Brendan Gallagher, Brett Gallagher, Cameron Brown, Zak Oehlerking) 11
Merrimack 10
Merrimack scored two quick goals to start the game and maintained s lead throughout much of the first half, but Big Green rallied late in the second quarter and the game was tied at the half. After Merrimack took the lead back in the third quarter, Dartmouth rallied to take the win by scoring four of the final five goals of the game.
Cameron scored the first goal of his NCAA D-I career, putting Dartmouth up by one late in the game. He took two shots on the day and had one ground ball.
Denver (Ryan Giles) 13
Duke 14
Duke had two big runs in the game—four straight in the first quarter and four straight overlapping the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters. Denver used mini runs of two or three goals spaced out by single scores for the Blue Devils to get back in the game. Denver’s run of three in the fourth quarter put them up by one, and, after the teams swapped single scores, Denver had a chance to run down the clock, up by one with 1:23 remaining in the game. The Pioneers quickly threw the ball away to give the Blue Devils a chance. Duked tied the game up with just nine seconds left in the game. On the ensuing faceoff Denver was called for a slash. Duke held the ball over the last few seconds of regulation to ensure that there would be no faceoff to start overtime. Duke won the game with a man-up goal just 22 seconds into overtime.
Ryan played in the game.
Harvard (Joey Graham) 21
Virginia 25
Virginia started the game off on a tear, scoring nine times in the first eight minutes of the game and led 20 to 8 at the halftime break. Virginia substituted freely in the second half and the Harvard’s top lines put up a rally of their own, scoring nine times in the final quarter, to narrow the gap.
Joey started at attack for the Crimson.
Hobart (Jackson Galiani) 13
Lehigh 19
Hobart used a four-goal run early in the second quarter to go up 10-4 on Lehigh. After that, Lehigh dominated the game with two runs of four straight scores and a run of five with only single scores from Hobart breaking up those runs.
Maryland (John Geppert) 15
Syracuse 12
The two legendary lacrosse powers matched each other’s runs of two or three goals, but Syracuse scored just twice after the Terrapins ran off four in a row in the second period. Maryland stretched that lead out to five with a run of three in the middle of the final period. The Orange could only muster two more goals in regulation.
John got his second goal of the season and scooped up three ground balls.
Michigan (Graham Hertzberg, Hunter Taylor) 11
Hofstra 10
Big Blue picked up their first win of the season. The Wolverines had a 4-3 advantage in the first quarter, but Hofstra matched that in the second so the game was tied at seven at the halftime break. Hofstra led by one going into the final period. But Michigan rallied for the win in the fourth quarter, getting the winning goal with less than a minute left in the contest.
Taylor saw his first action as a collegiate, coming into the game early in the second quarter. Over the balance of the game, he stopped ten of Hofstra’s fifteen shots on goal.

Navy (JT Thomas, Preston Luger) 5
Manhattan 6
A tale of two halves: Navy held a 4-1 advantage in the first half, but the Jaspers won the second half 5-1. Manhattan held the Middies scoreless for the final twenty-six minutes of the contest, taking their first lead with just a minute left in regulation.
Ohio State (Cullen Brown) 8
North Carolina 5
In much the same manner as the Navy/Manhattan game, North Carolina won a low-scoring first half, 4-2, but the Buckeyes dominated in the second half, scoring six times while surrendering just one goal to the Tar Heels.
Cullen in his 3rd D-I game, contributed one ground ball (5 over 3 games and 1 CT) to the Ohio State effort.
Penn (Stephen Bou) 9
Georgetown 7
The Quakers scored four straight goals across the end of the second quarter and start of the third to go up by four early in the second half. The Hoyas ate into that lead over the balance of the game, cutting Penn’s advantage to one with less than a minute left in the game. The Quakers sealed the win with a man up goal with twenty-three seconds left in the game.
Yale (Jake Cohen) 20
Villanova 14
Villanova raced out to an early lead, but Yale turned the tables on them and the game was tied at ten at halftime. Yale took over the game after the break, scoring five times in the first six minutes of the third quarter. The teams closed out the third by swapping pairs of goals. Villanova could make no headway against the Eli in the final frame. The teams were roughly even in shots and shots on goal, but Yale’s netminder had eighteen saves and ‘Nova’s just ten.
Jake started on defense for the Bulldogs, causing two turnovers and collecting one ground ball.

Division III

Congratulations to Will Single who saw playing time in his first D-III game.

GAME RECAPS
Dickinson (Will Single) 13
Stevens 6
Dickinson fell behind early but dominate from the middle of the second quarter through the final horn. Stevens was up 5-3 when the Red Devils offense got rolling—scoring eight straight goals from when there were six minutes left in the first half until midway through the third quarter. After Stevens scored their lone goal of the second half, Dickinson closed out the game with two more. Dickinson dominated possessions through big advantages in faceoffs and ground balls but solid play by the Stevens goalie mitigated those advantages.
Will scooped up one ground ball for Dickinson.
Gettysburg (Billy Banfield) 22
DeSales 5
The Bullets used two runs of four and five goals each and never allowed DeSales to score back-to-back goals. Gettysburg held better than three-to-one advantages in shots, shots on goal but the DeSales goalie was able to stand in the fire, making 25 saves on the day.
Billy saw playing time in the Bullet’s season opener.
Hampden-Sydney (Owen Hegadorn) 14
Southern Virginia 5
Hampden-Sydney cruised to the win in their season opener powered by a string of five straight scores in the first half and four straight in the second. Southern Virginia put together successive scores just once, early in the fourth quarter, but by then Hampden-Sydney was up by nine. Southern had a slim advantage on faceoffs, but any benefit from that was wiped out by their thirty-one turnovers.
Owen had one ground ball for the Tigers.
Washington & Lee(Will Bou) 11
York 10
The Generals started the game in trouble, yielding three goals to York in the game’s first five minutes. After another three-goal run by York, W&L was down by five. The Generals got back into the game, closing out the first half scoring and netting the first two of the second half to pull within three. York used a pair of scores to run their lead out to four in the final minute of the third quarter. Those were York’s last goals for the day. Washington and Lee got a buzzer beater to finish the third quarter and then pitched a 3-0 shut in the fourth and forced overtime. York won possession off of the overtime faceoff but turned the ball back to the Generals, who returned the favor. York committed their second turnover of the overtime period and the Generals were able to clear on this chance, getting the game winner on their second shot.
1. Will won ten of twenty-three faceoffs, took one Stevenson
shot and collected four ground balls.
