MAPHL Semifinal

The MAPHL playoff rules set up a semifinal between 2 IAC teams and the other a match between 2 WCAC squads. This set up a 3rd contest between Landon, which is generally considered a tough challenge in all circumstances, but which is an even greater test between rivals.
The play of the brown-sweatered team can be best described as all of the skaters played their hearts out for all 45 minutes. Prime example: entering the final period, the IAC champions faced a three goal and then soon into the 3rd period a four goal deficit. They fought back to 5-7 but playing man down defense for17 minutes (essentially a period) finally caught up with them. GREAT CREDIT IS DUE TO THESE YOUNG MEN—such tenacity will benefit them in their future endeavors off the ice.
To add to the Bears adversity, two scratches from the roster (one an injury, the other a Team Maryland coach requirement) added to the degree of difficulty.

Even though this was a disappointing loss, Coach Parker led his players to a 12-2-3 season and an IAC championship!!! As the schedule progressed from November to late February, the players’ adherence to the coach’s structure became apparent; this discipline was evident in the team’s faceoffs wins, ability to exit their D zone and their forcing of turnovers as their opponents attempted to break out. The Bear PP led MAPHL in goals scored.
The Class of 2023—Philip, Arthur, Tommy, Quinn (C), Sebby(A), Damon, Owen (A) and Zaakir contributed so much to Landon Hockey over their Bear Careers. Their leadership this season set a standard for future seniors. The returning roster has great potential. Team manager—Jennifer Farland also raised the level of Captain’s Mom performance. Mike McCormick, as always, took great care of these Bears.
