“La vengeance est un plat qui se mange froide” was the theme at the 2/25 MAPHL 2nd round of playoffs. The Bears earned a by in the playoffs while the DC Bulldogs had to win a first round game to come to the Bears Den. The Rink 2 ice kept “La vengeance” très froide for 3 periods and delivered the win as the clock expired.
The Bear D, which includes the Stalwart G and all the wingers back checked, stick checked, denied breakouts and otherwise tied up the DC Bulldogs. For the first 8:44 Leo Quattrone didn’t have to stop a shot- all 7 of the StA SOGs (except 1) were saved. Minutes 15:01 to about 5:00 saw no SOGs by the visitors. Leo stopped all two that were launched at him during period 2. The third continued the past patterns, except the Saints attacked heavily during the last ~eight minutes in which the referees gave them 2 PPs in which they poured on 7 SOGs (plus during the last minute, the StA goalie was substituted for a 6th skaters).
The game began well for the Bears. @7:03 EthanGoldman fed Ishaan Sethi and in turn he moved the puck to the crease where Reid Pehrkon beat the opposing goalie. Three minutes later the Bear capitalized on another opportunity when Quinn Farland passed to Colin Flood who converted a short shot @4:03.
As this clock moved to 0:00, the visitors from the Fort scored goal #1
END OF 1ST PERIOD BEARS 2 BULLDOGS 1
The second block of time was a defensive battles at both ends. The DC Bulldogs tested Leo twice to no avail while the Bears shot 11 times with Zach Lammers connected with Tommy Trowern @ 8:29
END OF 2nd PERIOD BEARS 3 BULLDOGS 1
Things started well here, but eventually AEDs were prepared to help those fans with weak hearts.
Edan Blazer set up Quinn for Landon goal #4 @11:28. Quinn racked up point #3 on his goal #2 @11:20 crediting Arthur Smink with an assist.
Now began a test of the flow to the spectators’ flow of oxygen and nutrients to the heart. A plus 4 advantage should not pose risks with only 6 minutes. StA PP goal #2 was booked at 6:51 remaining on a PP. Thirty-one seconds later the differential was reduced again. Finally with the Fort’s goalie pulled, the 6th skater scored at 0:01.
Bears 10 SOGs; Bulldogs 7 –Leo stopping 5
