Bears Hockey 4 Rockville Bulldogs 3

Thanks to Mike LiCalsi, the best view of the game and the astute play-by-play was streamed. One of the hallmarks of Coach Jacobs team has been its depth, especially since some of the less experienced Bear skaters earned good ice time recently. In this match for the IAC title at the Bears Den (somehow Prep’s Cabin John was not available), Landon was missing three key players (2 defensemen and their 3rd leading scorer). It mattered in the results, but the Brown sweatered visitors had already accumulated enough IAC points to be regular season champs with a tie.

The initial 15 minutes exhibited the fast skating of both teams with the puck being moved end-to-end regularly. Though Landon outshot the Rockville Bulldogs 11-9, a PP goal by GP was scored at 0:10.

The next period saw the Bears score 3 consecutive goals –Christian Daymude tallied @ 13:07 with an Apple to Graham Haberl; next @8:12Arthur Smink found Christian for the Bears’ 2nd goal; and Quinn Coughlan received a sweet pass from Tommy Trowern @ 4:15.

Again, late in the period, at 1:10 a second goal was recorder for the Bulldogs (that’s their mascot; a Hoya according to a history comes from the original Georgetown which had a baseball field with rocks along the outfield, thus Hoya Saxa, Greek for “What Rocks”. Rocks≠ a mascot)

SOG period 2 Bears 14 What Rocks 9

The final segment started auspiciously for the visitors with Sebby Kenary beating the GP goalie after taking a pass from Quinn C @ 10:25. The player, with Argentinian heritage roots, showed his Tango deke past the GP D and dangled the Hoya netminder for Goal #4.

Thehome team seemed energized after the break. They might have won but for several point blank saves by Jack LaCalsi including a flying breakaway. The What Rocks team increased their SOGs to 12 higher than the previous periods and scored twice to even the score and take 2nd place in the IAC standings.

Gonzaga next Wednesday at Ft. DuPont @ 4:15
