Bears Hockey 4 Little Hoyas 2

In this age in which opponents hug each other post game, clearly fraternity is a new mantra for competitive sports. In that spirit it is appropriate to analyze the GP cheer HOYA SAXA, which translates to “What Manner of Rocks”!!! At the Bears Den on Friday, GP got to appreciate THE WHITE ROCKS.

The two teams skated on the ice with identical 4-2-1 records and GP has not lost in the last 5 games outscoring opponents 22-9. By winning the admired WHITE ROCKS moved up the MAPHL and IAC standings.

The first period was hyped up by the boisterous fans of both teams. The Bears senior leadership had the team ready for their rivals and all 3 lines/ 3 D pairs played hard and smart. The SOGs were 8 to 8 with Leo Quattrone stopping all the Hoya shots and the visiting goalie was equally effective during the 15 minutes.

END OF 1ST PERIOD BEARS 0 LITTLE HOYAS O

The home team scored first, usually a hockey harbinger of victory. @12:16, junior Owen Calderone passed the 196 Gram hard rubber  cylinder to classmate Quinn Farland who scoredto take the lead. The Landon skaters were flying all over the ice beating the Admirers-of-Rocks all over the rink. Bear tally #2 was @3:35 on a setup by Freshman Reid Pehrkon to junior Sebby Kenary who scored @3:35.

While the Bears took a +2 lead, again the SOGs were equal, but Leo denying the GP skaters attempts at his net.

END OF 2ND PERIOD BEARS 2 LITTLE HOYAS 0

Minutes 30:01 to 45:00 were AED-worthy  exciting-

The Little Hoyas came out of the locker room firing—scoring at 11:12 and then at 9:34. The Bear Brotherhood did no diminish in their support, shouting unintelligible after unintelligible cheer to support their hockey team. A 2-2 tie late in a game can be devastating—NOT TONIGHT.

Owen brought the puck into his O zone, moved it to Quinn and then slide it to Captain Michael Hardie for the GWG @ 4:47.

Seniors Kevin Fou (G) and Ishaan Sheti (A) @1:39 made the final minute less nerve-racking with the clinching goal.

Leo, again,  was a stalwart in nets stopping 8 SOGs while the GP protector of the holey goal allowed 2 critical Bear scores while denying 6.
