The visiting Bulldogs earned the opportunity to play the #1 Bears by their win in the first round of the tournament. Their hopes of an upset lingered for the first 15 minutes, but deteriorated soon thereafter. Bears now play the #3 team from Rockville Pike tomorrow night (2/17, 4:05pm at the Bears’ Den).

The Bulldog goalie made 16 saves in the 1st period (the Bears’ goalie Sam Kroll had to make 1 in the same 15 minutes) to keep the Bulldogs in this match. At 8:59 of this segment, Joe Snivley, assisted by Max Greenwald gave the Bears a lead that they would not relinquish or which would be challenged.

END OF 1ST PERIOD LANDON 1 BULLIS 0

Soon after Landon killed off a Bullis powerplay,Captain Sam Anas showed his exceptional shooting skill by hit the corner of the net and seeing his puck hit the other two interior surfaces of the goal, 11:27. Two minutes later Soph forward David Lackner took a pass from Sam to put the Bears up 3-0. Twenty two seconds later (9:38) Frosh Joe Snivley  buried his second goal on an assist from ATeddy Wellington, Bears 4-0.  Freshman Isaac Porter added another goal at 5:49 with an assist from fellow Frosh Joel Rosenweig, 5-0.  The visitors scored a powerplay goal (the referees made calls reminiscent of the old equity Courts of England; this penalty seemed to fit this odd imposition of the rules) at 3:54, Bears 5 Bulldogs 1 , which was the score at the END of the 2nd PERIOD (SoGs– L 30 B-7).

After further dismissal of the Bulldogs powerplay, the 6th goal came from Sam Anas at 11:59 of the 3rd period. A nifty Johnny Cobb to Joel Rosenweig toIsaac Porter resulted in the Bears’ 7th goal at 10:36. Bullis responded with an even strength goal at 10:26 to make it Landon 7 Bullis 2. Three successive Bear goals placed an exclamation point in the scorecard– #8 David Lackner from Matt Potolicchio and Sam Anas; #9 was another Lackner goal (his hat trick) from Matt Opsahl and the last goal (3:29) came from Chris Javens (a soph back from an injury) assisted by Issac Porter.

As the SoGs (L46, B 11) suggests the blueliners–Connor Meike, Chris Javens, Christian Meike, Pearce Minshall, Nick Malone, Mike Anderson and Max Greenwald– frustrated the opponents throughout the game. They were particularly effective pinching in in the Bears’O zone and breaking up the Bulldog passes as they tried to move towards Sam Kroll‘s end of the ice.

The team from Rockville Pike will use their 7-1 lloss to the Bears on January 12 as motivation tomorrow night.

ALL LANDON FANS NEED TO COME OUT TO THE BEARS’ DEN FOR  4:05 IAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME (2/17).
