BEARS 13 TIGERS 6 in overtime

College Football has been played for 150 years and Woodberry Forest is competing in its 119th season. The boarding school, founded in 1889, has a roster of 69 players from 18 states and 3 countries. Its QB has received, according to 247 Sports, has received interest from Boston College, Charlotte, Duke, Syracuse and William & Mary.  The #s listed on the program shows 7 boys between 200 and 244 and 8 over 245-310. Size and skilled players are predictors of success, but the Tigers came to Bordley Stadium at Triplett Field were a disappointing 0-3 (including a loss to GP).

The Bears relied on their speed athleticism and discipline to beat the big, bad Tigers. It took overtime to earn a victory, the second in win last beating EHS in 2016 27-26. On a beautiful Fall afternoon, the teams combined for 9 turnovers [L 4 WF 5].

The First ½ saw no TDs or FGs. The Bears initial two drives ended in fumbles and the Tigers’ first possession end when they left the ball on the ground after a home team hit. The visitors spent 24:00 in their own end of the field.

Q2 was equally uneventful. Bears had 4 drives and Tigers 3—all ending in punts except 1 fumble by WF.

The Tigers received the 2nd half kick-off, earned a 1st down, but punted from its own territory.

Bears three and out plus a Bear interception of the WF QB at 0:29 ended the 3rd Q without a score.

The last twelve minutes was initiated by a Bear fumble. The Tigers started on their side of the 50 yard line and moved the ball 20 yards to set up a 30 yard field goal attempt, which was good. TIGERS 3 BEARS 0 @5:57

The Tigers got their chance to respond. They threw an incomplete pass, then Erick Speight sacked the WF QB and then Zayd dropped him again (this time for a 8 yard loss). On 4th and 22, the visitors completed a pass, but a host of BEARs crushed the receiver short of the goal line.
