FALL BALL [#2 report, if there’s more, please send me info?]FALL BALL [#2 report, if there’s more, please send me info?]

Thanks to many BSN associate reporters, here’s some more about Bears playing at the next level:

From Inside Lacrosse, the Cornell defense … with Max Feely (Landon School,Washington, DC) anchoring the defense as a senior leader. “Max is our guy,” DeLuca said. “He’s our anchor down low, he’s our senior. He’s been through the battles and has really taken that leadership role as one of those guys who has really shouldered the load. We expect big things from him next spring.” Feely was named the team’s outstanding defensive player.

While technically not yet at the next level ( also from Inside Lacrosse, IL No. 17 Young Gun rising junior Matt Opsahl, A, Landon (Md.) has verbally committed to Hobart. A very crafty left-handed dodger that finishes strong on the crease, Opsahl chose the Statesmen over Syracuse, Denver and Delaware. The 5-10, 180-pound attackman put up 24 goals and 11 assists for the IAC champion Bears last spring. Also had a dominant summer paving the way for the Crabs, attending Blue Chip as well. This has to be one of Hobart’s more high-profile profile recruits in their existence and Opsahl will try to help turn them around, as they stand 29-41 in the past five years. Quotes from the blog (not a favorite source of rational commentary, but nice thoughts about Matt):

Good for Opsahl to have the stones to commit to a school that isn’t “top-tier.” make your own tradition//What great news for Hobart! Imagine the publicity the sport would get in the media if Hobart ever makes it to Memorial Day weekend with a male student population of under 1000.//Finally! It’s great to read that Hobart is getting some top recruits! The new facilities, the campus and academics are a great recruiting package!!

Jimmy Sloan opted not to tryout as a walk on to UVA varsity this year, but is a very active offensive midfielder on the UVa Club team, on which most 1st years hardly play.  At their first tournament in Richmond in early October, Jimmy had 2 goals and an assist in victory against University of Richmond, (11-7) as well as multiple faceoffs.  The reporter stopped counting his contributions to a 11-3 victory over the Duke team. Jimmy has and will be wearing his Landon helmet until the spring UVA club season.  This August at the Summit Lacrosse tournament in Lake Placid, NY Jimmy was playing in the Mens Open Division I for a University of Massachusetts team, and after their victory over the U Penn team, was approached by two opposing players.  Alex Staffier, Landon ’03, Penn ’07 and teammate Andy ? Landon ’02 had recognized the Bear helmet instantly and did what any Landon gentleman would…introduced themselves, displaying exquisite sportsmanship.  Six hundred miles away.  The eternal brotherhood lives!

Wes Lincoln played for the Gettysburg lax team this fall  (see picture at the right against Elizabethtown) — taking

several face-offs, getting off several nice shots  and playing

on a regular midfield line.

  • Ben Spiritos to play for theGreen of Dartmouth College

The same edition of DCSportsFan.com ranked the Bears as #6 in the DMV area (provocatively, 2 places behind the team from Rockville Pike and 1 behind StA) AND for the second time named Johnny Lynn as the IAC player of the week.Garrett Pan achieved the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank possible, Eagle Scout, quite amazing with all of his commitments to Landon and the community. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

SHRIMP BOWL and LANDON CUPSHRIMP BOWL and LANDON CUP

BSN will cover these November 19 Landon Classics and urges all to attend. There will be an information filled preview. HOPEFULLY there will be many notes sent from alumni of these institutional hallmarks of the school. PLAYERS/PARENTS/TEACHERSPLEASE SEND A SHORT PARAGRAPH ABOUT A FUNNY OR DRAMATIC MOMENT FROM THESE CONTESTS. We may get the recollections of the coaches from one of the memorable 3rd grade upsets and ONE of BSN’s avid subscribers was instrumental in another historic 3grade win– RIGHT Steve G? Using the new technology available to BSN, there will be a post about the contests as the players leave the field!!!

HINT OF HOCKEY AND HOOPSHINT OF HOCKEY AND HOOPS

BSN will be posting on these two winter sports for the Bears. There’s news about the current players and alums for both sports.

Sam Anas was the #1 scorers in the NAPHL prospects league (18 teams across the country) and his DC Caps tied for first place.

Danny Rubin’s place on the Boston College Eagles was made official when he was issued this team jersey(see picture on right). Can’t wait to see him spot up beyond the 3 point arc or drive to the hoop. Too bad that BC does not have Harvard on its schedule or we could have seen two Bears on the court!!!

Christian Webster from the Harvard website.
