Good results for Bear grapplers at StA tournament. Darion and Joe have some good games. Jordan Gear scores points for the Trojans from the diving pool.
VARSITY WRESTLING, the StA Tournament
From Coach Katz– The young bears had a good weekend while participating in the annual, always tough, St. Albans tournament [editor note: even the WaPo thinks this is an important event] . The team placed 10th out of 32 teams. Landon outscored several teams that beat us in dual meets (Gonzaga, Woodberry Forrest, O’Connell). We had three wrestlers place in the top eight:
Jarett Witzal placed third,
Jules Desroches place fourth and
Miles Franklin placed eighth.
Four other wrestlers were one round away from placing: Ben Goodfriend , Justin Conner, Matt Johnston and Brian Gelb

John Nichols’ full report will be published soon, but saw Luke Howard and Charlie Schnider start for the Buckeyes against JHU at Homewood Field. Luke covered the Blue Jays’ stud attackman and kept him in check; unfortunately on the game-ending play in triple overtime, another Buckeye covered him. Charlie ran with the 1st middies and had an assist. In the 2nd o/t he fired a shot which was stopped by a great save. JHU 10 OSU 9.
BEAR HOOPS ALUMNI
Darion gets some nice props from Coach Bennett and President Obama is coming to C’ville on Monday to see #32 and others. Joe McDonald’s back from his injury and has a nice game.

One of the truly rewarding aspects of being involved in Bear Sports is getting to know these young men who excel on their teams, perform well in the class rooms and achieve in other aspects of Landon (community service, the performing and visual arts). One, Mike Anderson, is a very talented artist, played hockey for Landon, plays the same sport for the Princeton club team, and is attending the same superb college which I attended. Below is a photograph of one of Mike’s painting, which does not adequately capture the incredible brush strokes and subtle colors, which is now the prize art work in my gallery.
Thanks, this wonderful gift is so much appreciated!
