BEARS VS. BEARS

Virginia (Jason Murphy, Jack Falk, Michael Rhoads) 15

Penn (Peter Laco, Garrett Fellows) 10

UVA bounced back from their OT loss to High Point (see recap below). The first half saw Virginia jump out to a 2 goal lead only to have the Quakers rally back. Penn closed to 6-5 in the closing seconds of the first half (scoring the first of the 2 goals they would score in the final 10 seconds of a quarter!). UVA came out of the locker room with renewed purpose and pushed their lead to 11-5 in the first 8 minutes of the third quarter.   Jason Murphy had another strong game for the ‘Hoos, winning 13 of 19 faceoffs. Jack Falk also had one ground ball.

Apologies to the Randy and Pam Laco and the readers for blowing out of Klockner before we could get a picture of some or all of the Bears who played.

Bucknell (Sean O’Brien, Jarret Witzal) 10

Colgate (Robby Dunigan) 11 OT

The Bucknell Bison suffered their first loss of the new season and Colgate picked up their second win. The game was the first Patriot League match for both teams. Sean scored once for the Bison and Jarret was 7 of 13 at the X.

Cornell (Marshall Peters, Jack Bolen, Colton Rupp) 10

Hobart (Koko Avedisian, Riley McTague) 8

Last year Cornell took a trip down south to Dallas to play Albany and the teams brought NY upstate weather with them. The Big Red traded Albany for Hobart and Dallas for West Palm Beach and got the weather escape they were looking for (oh, there’s that spreading the game around thing, too). Colton Rupp is proving to be a great addition to the Cornell roster, scoring 2 goals on 9 shots (KEEP SHOOTING!!!) while Marshall was a force on D, with 5 ground balls, 4 caused turnovers and 1 shot.   Jack Bolen one shot for Cornell and Riley had one for Hobart. Cornell won the fourth quarter 4-1 to flip the scoreboard in their favor.

OTHER GAMES

Virginia (Jason Murphy, Jack Falk, Michael Rhoads) 11

High Point 12-OT

New D-I programs are making an impact on the game and never was this more evident in High Points’ upset of the Virginia Cavaliers.   Virginia had to outscore the Panthers 5-1 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. HPU won the OT faceoff, and after a quick time out, scored on their first shot. Jason was one of the few things on for the Cavs, with 9 wins on 14 faceoffs, 3 ground balls and a caused turnover.

Dartmouth (Landon McKenzie) 3

Air Force 9

Dartmouth (Landon McKenzie) 6

Denver 16

Dartmouth played a pair of games in Colorado this weekend, dropping contests to both the Falcons and the Pioneers.

Delaware (Philip Pena) 7

Michigan 10

The Blue Hens struggles continue while Michigan evened their record at 2-2

Drexel (Hank Brown) 14

Albany 20

The Dragons dropped a high scoring contest to the Albany Great Danes who appear to be just as powerful and offensive team as they have been the past years when led by the Thompsons.

Johns Hopkins (Sam Lynch, Hunter Sells) 11

North Carolina 15

The Tar Heels’ 5-0 run to close out the contest resulted in the Jay’s second loss of the season.

Vermont (Coach Curtis) 8

Providence 11

Princeton (Mark Strabo) 10

Hofstra 11 OT

Princeton scored two late goals to force overtime, but Hofstra scored 14 seconds into overtime to get the win.

Navy (Patrick Keena) 9

Boston University 10 2OT

Patrick had another highly productive game for the Middies, scoring 2 goals and dishing out 3 assits. Patrick took 9 shots (KEEP SHOOTING!!!!), 6 of which were on goal. The Terriers scored 3 goals in a 4 minute span that stretched from the 1:40 mark of regulation into overtime. This was the first Patriot League contest for both teams.

This week’s D-I Polls:

This Coming Week:

Three Bears vs. Bears games on the schedule:

Navy at Bucknell

Princeton at Johns Hopkins

D-III Notes

Still no D-III games to report on. Last week we covered Tommy Minkler’s appointment as an assistant coach at his collegiate alma mater, Ohio Wesleyan. We failed to also point out that Wes Lincoln-Landon 2010 and Gettysburg 2014-has joined the coaching staff of Marymount University.
