Bear icemen 7 Calvert Hall 0

This game was the first real test for the Bears; Calvert Hall has been a nemesis in the past.  The Cardinals’ rink is a long drive particularly on the congested roads to Baltimore; so it was not surprising that the Bears had sluggish legs and mistiming could be seen in the first few minute of play.  Eventually, the visitors settled in and began to beat Calvert Hall up and down the ice. The final score was a convincing 7-0 win against a tough MAPHL opponent.

Soph Goalie Sam Kroll stopped all 18 shots that he faced. The Bear DPearce Minshall, Max Greenwald, Connor Meike, Mike Anderson and Chris Javens  obviously contributed to Sam’s O by keeping the home team’s skaters mostly to the perimeter.

Landon was shorted handed early on, but Captain Sam Anas stole the puck and took it down the ice to score the first goal of the game .  The Bears continued to possess the puck and worked hard to bottle up the CH attack. A second goal in the first period by Anas from  great passes by Matt Opshal and David Lackner gave Landon a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first period.

The second period, opened with a little more tempo.  Matt Opsahl found the back of the net after a great 2 on 1 rush from a pass given by Lackner.  With CH in the box, Landon took advantage when Connor Meike hit a wrister through traffic into the upper corner of the net from a nifty pass from Joe Snively.  End of two, Landon 4 -CH-0.

Though the third period was marred by some penalties for both sides, Landon’s man down stayed strong and limited the goal scoring opportunities of the Cardinals.  Landon continue to skate through the clutching and grabbing and scored a fifth goal by Snively on assists from Nick Malone and Teddy Wellington.  Scrappy play around the net enabled Joel Rosenzweig (a recent call up from JV) to score.  He was assisted by Opsahl and Issac Porter.  Another shorthanded goal rounded out Landon’s scoring. This time Matt Potolicchio buried it from an Anas pass.

Landon worked hard and overcame the difficulties of the travel to prevail 7-0.

After three games, Bears 25 opponents 1 (a powerplay goal).

A fan has asked on this site, how good are the Bears. Come out to Fort Dupont on Friday at 4:15om; Landon has their first IAC test  against the tenacious Bulldogs of St. Albans, a team that lost little talent from a good roster last year.

[from correspondents, thanks!! BSN will be at the rink Friday with a WiFi notebook; so there may be a 7pm post.]

Go Bears!!!
