Bear Hockey 2 SJCHS 4 MAPHL Championship Game

The #2 seeded Landon (15-4-1) team faced the #1 MAPHL team Cadets (19-2-3) at the Laurel Ice Gardens with St. John’s winning. Briefly, Landon skaters worked hard all 45 minutes. Clearly, the Bear fans were in full voice outcheering the larger school’s students

The home team took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Leo Quattrone stopped 9 of the Cadets’ SOGs. The lower seeded team put 4 SOGs.

Kevin Fou scored @ 8:37 with assists to Owen Calderone and Ishaan Sethi. It was a successful PP with the SJCHS crease crowded with Brown-sweatered skaters.

The margin moved to +2 again when the Cadets scored at 8:01.

Leo saved 4 shots and his teammates put 12 on net.

While Landon was pummeling the St. John’s netminder with 12 SOGs in the last period, Owen converted a penalty shot (unfortunately the rink’s sound system made it impossible to hear what the SJCHS mortal sin was)  @ 0:20.8. An empty net goal resulted in the final score,

Third period: Leo 5 saves; Landon 12 SOGs.

The Landon players should be proud of their season, returning to the ice post COVID, they played hard and smart for their 20 game season. THE ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT IS MINE—not being able to get to know the Class of 2022 for a full career was a loss. The 11 seniors are a GREAT bunch and it’s sad that I missed that time to get to know them better.
