Bear Hockey 10 WWHS 0
The 2010-2011 edition of the Bears holds more than a few questions. Walt Whitman appeared to be an early season test; the Vikings have size and speed. As the final score indicates, the Vikings did not measure the home team.
Landon started a sophomore goalie, Sam Kroll With the ’11 Senior Class graduating some size and defensive skill, the first point of focus would be the D end of the ice. For the first few minutes, it looked like the Whittier Boulevard neighbors were a good match. There were rushes on both sides, but the Bears put some on net, while WWHS did not.
Freshman Joe Snively proved that his presence on the roster will be a big + by scoring off an assist from Teddy Wellington and Matt Potolicchio at 9:19. Soon thereafter, David Lackner scored on feed.
A few minutes later the freshman classmate in goal showed that the nets will be well protected by stuffing one of the Black/Blue forwards at point blank range. He was well served by the Bear defensemen–Senior Pearce Minshall, Juniors Max Greenwald and Mike Anderson, Soph Nick Malone and Frosh Chris Javens. While Sam Kroll did not face many shots ( WWHS recorded 4 SOGs during his two periods), when challenged, he should good positioning and great reactions. During the third period, Alex Joyce stopped 4 more Viking shots, taking some of his rust off.
The remainder of the game was an opportunity for the Bears to polish their skating, passing and shooting. One special example was a face off win during a Viking PP, which led to a quick break out and a SH goal by Matt Potolicchio with an assist from Max Greenwald. The score sheet showed the following numbers:
