Late breaking news about Bears and their alumni Brothers
WRESTLING
from most excellent Coach Katz–
This weekend was a good test to see where we are as a team. We sent 4 wrestlers to the very competitive Ray Oliver hosted by the McDonogh school. Junior Joel Brown (132) was seeded number 1 and lived up to his seed. He pinned or tech falled every opponent, including a Bullis wrestler in the finals. This same wrestler knocked Joel out of the blood round of National Preps his freshman year. Sophomore Will Levy was seeded number 5. Will had a great day with upsets over both the 4th seed and the 3rd seed to place 3rd at 145. Junior Anthony Savoy was unseeded and drew the #2 seed first round. He made it to the semi-finals of the Consolation B round. Junior Will Abramson was seeded 5th, but unfortunately had to forfeit the first match because of a delay in his SAT. He was placed in the Consolation B and won that. The team placed 11th out of 19.

The rest of the team traveled to Hagerstown for the Holloway at St. James. This tournament was a good test for our less experienced wrestlers. The team placed 2nd out of 14 teams. First year wrestler Theo Shockey (106) had a good day and placed 3rd. First year Junior Colin Redmond (120) also performed well by making his first ever finals and took 2nd place. Junior Jibreel Muhammad (132) forfeited in the finals because he was not feeling well which placed him 2nd. Junior Nico Schermer (160) lost a tough match in the semi-finals against the #1 seed, but wrestled back for 3rd place. Junior David LaPrade (182) was our sole champion with his first varsity tournament championship. Freshman Tiller Smith (195) lost a close match in the finals to earn 2nd place. Finally, Junior Gabe Johnson (285) lost a battle in the finals as well for a second place. We sent 24 wrestlers and gained a ton of valuable experience on the mat.

Next weekend the varsity will fight for a title at the Mad Mats tournament at Magruder High School. Landon will host a JV jamboree on Thursday with over 100 wrestlers. Go Bears!
BASKETBALL
Coach Turner took his Bears to Hampton, VA to test them in the Big Shots Boo Williams Legacy Classic where they placed 5th in a challenging 12 team field:

BEAR TRACKS –DIV III Soccer
An 89th minute equalizer from the Mammoths set up a thrilling finish, leading the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship game all the way to penalty kicks, where Connecticut College emerged triumphant over the Amherst College men’s soccer team as the Camels won the penalty kicks, 4-1, after a 1-1 game through 110 minutes on Saturday night at the UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium. In the last Div. III championship (2019), NICO KENARY played in another O/T loss by the Mammoths; the Bear was injured towards the end of the 17-2-3, Amherst season.
