Your Travalanche Daily Digest for August 14, 2025

Today we announce a new Travalanche feature that will hopefully help you maximize the value of this increasingly unwieldy site. Travalanche is about 17 years old now if my math is correct, which means that many of the biographical blogposts (ironically, ones about people who are very likely among the ones you and I care about the most) are now sort of buried under all the subsequent ones, like ruins beneath the streets of modern Rome. Yet one is inclined to promote the new posts, since one gets diminishing returns when sharing old links on social media, after having done so year after year. So what I’ve decided to do is bundle all the posts for each calendar day so you can have a chance to scan it and check out earlier ones you may have missed. Once again, subscribers, if it’s too much e-mail, just unsubscribe!
My two new posts for August 14 today are on playwright Tom Eyen and illustrator Ralph Barton.
Older August 14 posts includes ones on:
Robert Woolsey of Wheeler and Woolsey
Alice Ghostley (Esmerelda from Bewitched)
Ernest Thayer (author of “Casey at the Bat”)
Western star Francis Ford, brother of director John
TV announcer Ed Herlihy
Ethelind Terry, the Original Rio Rita
Tap dancer Jeni LeGon
Dancer Margaret Severn, who worked with masks
Brenda Benet, ill-fated ex of Bill Bixby
If you’re a regular reader of Travalanche, or it has benefitted you in any way, please support it on Patreon. Current members get daily curated clips, and we’re cooking up new ways to say thanks all the time. There is no minimum, and every little bit helps. Thanks for whatever you can do.My Patreon page is here.
