“You Don’t Matter to Me” – One More Common Lie
“If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.”
No one suffers alone; no one rejoices alone. When one hurts, we all feel it. When one is enthused, we join in their happiness. Paul writes elsewhere, “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly” (Romans 12:15-16).
This is the cost AND reward of being in a family of God.
When you minister to each other, and you nurture those friendships, their life becomes your life. So, when a death occurs in the life of someone in the church, the sadness is not just with the blood family. We all feel it.
When someone in the churches gets engaged, there is corporate enthusiasm. If may even feel like “one of your own” is getting married. Families feel suffering and rejoicing together, and this is magnifies in the case of the body of Christ.
It is a lie to believe no one in the church can or should effect me.
Those who don’t exercise their gift of giving hurt potential ministry expansion. Those who don’t exercise their gift of administration hurt the direction of a church. I would even go as far to say that when people are gone on a Sunday morning, we feel it. And when everyone is here, we feel it.
