Director: Harry Bromley Davenport

Starring: Philip Sayer, Bernice Stegers, Danny Brainin

An alien creature impregnates a woman who gives birth to a man that was abducted by aliens three years ago. The man reconnects with his wife and son for a sinister purpose.

A Father, Sam Phillips (Philip Sayer) disappears in a flash of light whilst playing with his son in their backyard. Three years later he returns. The scene of Sam’s return is rather disgusting as a woman gives birth to him (gives new meaning to being reborn!!). This was a very weird scene indeed, with good makeup and practical effects.

On Sam’s return home, his wife Rachel (Bernice Stegers) has a new boyfriend. Thinking he was dead, or that he simply ran away from home deserting them, Rachel is not sure what to make of his return. She still has feelings for him, but she now also has a boyfriend. This complicates matters for her, and I must be honest, I found this intrigue far more interesting than the premise, which was rather confusing.

I enjoyed the mystery surrounding Sam, and also his eagerness to reconnect with his son. As the story unfolds, though, we learn there is more here than meets the eye. Unfortunately the film delves deep into the pit of weirdness, leaving me dissatisfied and confused. And what a silly ending…

‘Xtro’ won the Best Special Effects award.

Would I watch it again? No.
