Director: Kiah Roache-Turner

Starring: Jay Gallagher, Bianca Bradey, Leon Burchill

A talented mechanic prepares to battle his way through hordes of flesh-eating monsters after his sister is kidnapped on the eve of a zombie apocalypse.

This Australian gore fest plunges the viewer smack bang into guts and gore from the opening moment. ‘Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead’ is a relentless splatter horror with non-stop blood, guts and gore. Not everyone will be able to stomach this movie. You have to be a horror fan to appreciate this…

While ‘Wyrmwood’ is more than just a bit weird, it puts a new twist on the zombie genre. A handful of survivors are in constant battle with the undead, and always on the run. The big twist here comes in the form of Brooke (Bianca Brady), who was bitten by a zombie, but due to experiments being done on her, she hasn’t turned. Instead, she is able to somehow control zombies.

Another twist is the discovery that zombie blood can be used as gasoline. In a post-apocalyptic world, gasoline is essential for their survival, yet hard to come by. With this discovery, they have to lure zombies and capture them.

The film turns more comedy during the second half, but there’s still lots of gore and not one calm minute. ‘Wyrmwood’ does not allow the viewer the chance to catch his breath. ‘Wyrmwood’ jumps on the Hollywood band wagon by adding the clichéd hand to hand combat climax. Yawn, this was totally unnecessary in this movie.

If you’re looking for a zombie movie that’s different from the myriad of zombie movies out there, then ‘Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead’ is a good choice.

Would I watch it again? Yes, I think so.
