Would you Rather?: Costco edition

“Would you rather” (aka: “which form of torture is slightly more tolerable? 🙂 ) is a game often used to break the ice when strangers meet (e.g., orientations), at parties, or, in my case, at Thanksgiving or other family gatherings when I insist that people indulge my desire to make them choose between two terrible alternatives.

For those not familiar with the premise: the “asker” selects two things that are undesirable and makes the “askee” select which he/she would rather endure. I’m sure it is easy to see why this game is most fun when participants know each other–the options can be tailored to what people most detest/fear/etc. (For example, whereas for most people, a choice between eating chex mix vs. sitting in the same room as a raccoon would seem pretty harmless–and lead people to question whether the asker understands the rules!–given my (admittedly irrational and extreme) loathing of chex mix (the smell alone makes me sick) and my fear of raccoons, I would find this a very terrible and difficult choice).

As a break from product reviews and other Costco-related news/promotions, etc., I thought it was time for another silly post…so here is the first Would you Rather?: Costco Edition post. Of course, I don’t know the readers (I’m being optimistic here and hoping that it is legitimate to use the plural of “reader” 🙂 ) individually, so I cannot make them specific to individuals, but here goes:

Would you rather:

  1. …eat one Costco hot dog for breakfast every day or 10 Costco hotdogs for dinner 2 nights/week?

  2. …spend one week sleeping in Costco on a comfortable sofa or one month at your house but on a hard floor?

  3. …spend 2 hours in the freezing vegetable room without a coat or spend 2 hours in the store in 100 degree weather without air conditioning while wearing a (Costco, of course) coat?

  4. …be banned from Costco for life or have to go there four times/day for an entire year?

  5.  …be given a lifetime supply of free clothing from Costco but be limited to the exact same outfit every day (i.e., multiple sets of the same pants, shirt, etc.) or pay triple for any clothing you purchase but have the freedom to wear anything in the store as well as anything from other stores?

  6. …be a member of BJs and only have to drive 10 minutes to get there or a member of Costco but have to drive 45? (Note: for my parents, BJs is a 5-minute drive, Costco is 25 minutes, so their solution…join both!)

  7. …get married to a person so obsessed with Costco that he/she insisted on the wedding being held in a Costco and 90% of the items in the house be bought from Costco or get married to someone who refused to join or even use/eat anything from Costco?

  8. …eat a Costco-sized container of mayonnaise or drink a Costco-sized jug of canola oil in one sitting?

  9. …run a marathon inside a Costco (i.e., LOTS of laps) and get free lifetime membership or run a marathon in perfect running weather with gorgeous scenery but no Costco perks?

  10. …go on a free shopping spree in Costco for 1 hour but in the company of the 3 people you find most annoying talking nonstop (and no earplugs!) or be limited to 5 minutes but alone (or with loved–or at least tolerable–ones).

Anyone want to play?

Others? We can do a Round 2 at some point!
