World War Z (2013)

Director: Marc Forster
Starring: Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz
Former United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop a zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatens to destroy humanity itself.
With so many zombie films out there, how do you make one that stands out from the crowd? Firstly, you get an A-list actor to play the lead. Secondly, you give it a huge budget. Thirdly, you get an A-list director. And voila, you have ‘World War Z’.
Brad Pitt stars as Gerry Lane, who would do everything possible to protect his family in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. I loved the fantastic opening scene with total pandemonium. ‘World War Z’ definitely is one of the better and more ambitious zombie films out there. It features a good score, great visuals, good make-up, and fast-paced action. This is a zombie film that is really fun to watch. Most zombie films revolves around the kill scenes and the guts and gore. ‘World War Z’, however, is a survival story and concentrates more on the characters.
Make no mistake, there are a few gory scenes, but they’re never too disgusting to watch. This is a zombie film even non-horror viewers might enjoy. There are numerous credibility issues, but these can be overlooked thanks to the film’s high entertainment value.
Earning a whopping $540.4 million at the box office, ‘World War Z’ became the highest grossing zombie film of all time. Along with 2004’s ‘Dawn of the Dead’ it is among my favorite zombie films (my absolute favorite being ‘Train to Busan’.)
Would I watch it again? Yes.
