Wolfen (1981)

Director: Michael Wadleigh

Starring: Albert Finney, Diane Venora, Edward James Olmos

A New York cop investigates a series of brutal deaths that resemble animal attacks.

Well, this was a nice surprise. The film cleverly misleads the viewer into assuming what in fact isn’t true.

‘Wolfen’ features very good performances and a clever script. Apart from essentially being a horror movie, this was also a very interesting police detective mystery thriller. There is a constant foreboding and creepy atmosphere.

We follow detective Dewey Wilson as he tries to solve a mysterious murder case. He allows himself to get involved in much more than he bargained for – both on an investigative and spiritual level. Albert Finney is so good as Dewey!

The film offered a lot more than I expected. This is one clever horror film.

‘Wolfen’ received award nominations for Best Horror Film, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Writing. It won an award for Best Sound Effects.

Would I watch it again? Maybe.
