So far we have covered two MILB rebrands and today we have a third announcement. The new Wichita baseball team now has an identity.

The Wind Surge was the chosen name for this new team, which is the relocation of the New Orleans Baby Cakes to the city.

The color scheme is blue, red and yellow-gold. The logo features a winged horse as well as another one that just has a baseball on top of home plate. I think the color scheme is ok, but the logos just seem kind of boring. Like Im not going to rush out to buy this on a anything.

The name is also on the boring side. Like really Wind Surge? I get wind can be a force of nature at times, but it doesn’t really scream this is a great name for a team. I could think of several way better wind names. Heck even Zephyrs, which was the former name of the New Orleans team would be better than this.

It also doesn’t seem like it’s a very fun name. I understand not wanting to go too far and be over-the-top, but I also don;t really like names where you to play it too safe. I feel like this was a play it safe option. It isn’t memorable to me.

Overall this is the worst rebrand to come out in 2020 so far. It just lacks charm and fun that I feel Minor League Baseball is all about. So I would probably score this as a c,or c – rebrand.
