Why Jesus Died – (39) The Free Us From the Feat of Death and (40) So We Would Meet Him After Death

There are many reasons Jesus came to die according to John Piper’s book The Passion of Jesus Christ. Here are his reasons #39 and #40.

39. To free us from bondage to the fear of death (Heb 2:14-15) – Satan loves to deceive and one of his favorite lies is is that sin is preferable to righteousness and exalting self is better than glorifying God. Christ came to remove those weapons form Satan. He came to remove the power of death’s fear and now we can look at death without it’s sting. Satan can still kill our body but he can never kill our soul (Rom 8:11).

40. So that we would be with Him immediately after death (II Cor 5:8; Phil 1:21, 23; I Thess 5:10) – Christ came to redeem us so that even when death takes us from this world we are not lost forever. When death takes us from this world, it is to our advantage if we know Christ. It is gain because we go to be with God. That reality is beyond words.
