Why Jesus Died – (31) So We Die to the Law and (32) To Enable Us to Love for Christ
You probably have never considered all the implications of Jesus’ death as Piper does in his book The Passion of Jesus Christ. We are considering those 50 reasons Piper gives:
31. So that we would die to the law and bear fruit for God (Rom 7:4) – Someone had to die for the curse of the Law because of our penalty for breaking it (Gal 3:13). That someone who did just that, of course, was Jesus Christ. Thus, if we are in Christ we cannot be condemned because God looks at us as if we kept the law perfectly (Gal 2:16). Now, we are able to bear fruit without that penalty of sin hanging over us.
32. To enable us to live for Christ and not ourselves (II Cor 5:15) – Christ died so that we would glory in Him and His work and not ourselves. In one sense, Christ died for Himself! Is this vain? Nope! He deserves that glory and we were created for it. His death helps us accomplish our created purpose.
