Why Is Everyone So Upset?
The hatred, divisiveness and animosity that people have toward one another has been around since Cain murdered his brother Abel (Genesis 4). And even before that, when Adam and Eve chose to promote their own standards and laws (Genesis 3), the world took notice and has been conspiring since then to push back against God.
Read Psalm 2. Like right now, read it.
The psalmist is asking, “Why do people plot against God? Why do they hate Him so much?” The psalmist says their violent raging is dumb; it is pointless to resist God. Even if people or nations unite against God, the vanity of such an alliance remains a vain thing.
What does God think of all this? He laughs.God chuckles. Why the world is in chaos, God sits on His throne calmly and is somewhat amused there are some plotting against Him. It’s as amusing – like a fly attacking an elephant.
And it is frustrating to Him as well.
The answer? Jesus.
No one can pacify the heart of the man like the Gospel. It’s one of the reasons I push back on legislation for addressing gun control or racism. The problem is the heart of man; the solution is not “pass more laws.” You cannot root out evil unless the Gospel is the first remedy.
The psalmist says we must kiss (or “intimately embrace”) the Son as the solution.
My prayer for us is this – “Father, we see the folly of the world around us. We see evil trying to overthrow You in this world. We see the wicked rejecting Your rightful throne. We see them attacking the beauty of Your Anointed One, Jesus Christ. And we now You sit in heaven not amused by this evil but concerned that we could be so bold and full of Satanic pride.May our surrender to the Lordship of Your Son be one of genuine affection and reverence.May we rejoice and fear in the same heartbeat. And allow us as your children not to mock your rule but to live our lives completely according to Your laws and statutes. Amen.”
