Director: Geoffrey Sax

Starring: Michael Keaton, Deborah Kara Unger, Ian McNeice

An architect’s desire to speak with his wife from beyond the grave becomes an obsession with supernatural repercussions.

What if we could cross the line between the living and the dead? If there was a chance you could speak to your deceased loved one again, would you?

‘White Noise’ explores this theory. Jonathan Rivers (Michael Keaton) is a successful architect. His wife, Anna, is a best-selling author. They live comfortably and she is pregnant with their first child. Life is perfect. Only, she’s about to die…

Nope, no spoilers; this is the movie’s premise. What happens after her death, is the interesting part. Shortly after Anna’s death, Jonathan meets Raymond Price (Ian McNeice), who is able to record and see the dead through static images on his TV. When he tells Jonathan he heard Anna’s voice, Jonathan is skeptic at first, but he is soon overwhelmed by all the evidence. Anna then starts warning Jonathan whenever someone is in danger, hoping he could potentially prevent their death.

‘White Noise’ is probably not the best of scripts, but it was rather creepy with jump scares that’ll make you jump in your seat! Although classified as a horror movie, this is more of a drama thriller. The horror comes in the form of freaky images that suddenly jump at you, and suspense that gnaws at you.

There is a twist ending, and I must warn you it might not be a satisfying one. Despite the film being poorly received by critics, it was a box office success, earning $91.2 million on a $10 million budget. It was followed by a stand-alone sequel ‘White Noise 2: The Light’.

Would I watch it again? Yes.
